180gr, .401" bullets?

I found a deal that I couldn't pass up. 500 180gr 40 cal lead bullets for $25.00!
They have a crimp grove like you'd have for a roll crimp, like a revolver round. They are .401" diameter. I'm thinking 38-40.

Can these be used in a 40 S&W load? I see that Dardas bullets list .401 bullets as working really well in XDM's and the like.
It may be strange, but I don't remember ever seeing a 40 cal/10mm bullet any larger than .400.

Thanks.

If you look at the cartridge called the centimeter which was a 10 mm cartridge shortened to 40 sw length the original wildcat described used 38/40 bullets. The only difference from between the 40 sw and the centimeter was as a shortened 10 mm it used a large pistol primer.

Jacketed 10 mm bullets usually are sized at .400. Lead and some plated are sized at .401. No different then other calibers where the lead bullet is sized .001 over jacketed. This is to ensure a better seal in the barrel.

All lead bullets meant for the .40cal S&W are sized .401.

Take Care

I guess that it is obvious that you can use .401 bullets in an auto-loader. But, that's what you get for only owning Glock 40 cal.'s

I never looked at 40 S&W lead bullets.

Thanks.

.401 with a crimp grove is what I use for my 38-40 Whinchester when I load for it so I'm sure that what these bullets are for because of the grove but I see no reason why you couldn't use them in your 40cal, I know if I had a canalure tool to make a grove I could use 40/10mm bullets for my 38-40 loads, load a few up and try them I'm sure they will shoot just fine.

I'm always up for buying another weapon.
What do you suggest?
If S&W M&P...no way Hosay!
The M&P never felt right in my hand, don't like the palm swell.
You couldn't give me a Ruger semi-auto. Won't have it.
If you could tell me that there is as good a handgun out there as either a Glock or a Sig, I'd like to hear about it.

I suspect that I won't hear anything. But that's because I personally know (meaning "as far as I'm concerned") there ain't no such thing.
Glocks and Sig's RULE!!!

EDIT:
I do have a S&W Sigma, LOVE it! No palm swell!
Shot 350 rounds through it today...up to 2,400, (yes, I document it) 100% trouble free rounds now.

I have had good luck with cast lead .401 dia. 175 gr. bullets from my Lyman mold. (I can't remember the mold number) in both my 40 S&W and 38-40 reloads. Alox lube, proper amount of universal powder, Star brass and primers send the bullet to the point where my gun is pointed. It is just too bad that point and the point that I am aiming don't coincide more often.

Actually, Universal is the powder that I found to be the best. These were already lubed, so no problem there. They shoot great out of my Sigma 40, but not so great (yet) from my G22 with a brand new Wilson Match grade barrel.

Thanks!

A CZ 75B in .40cal will shoot with any Sig made. Ergonomics are better to boot. You might want to look out for one and try it out.

Take Care
