Bingo you hit the nail on the head. Workers Comp Insurance in that industry is very high and if several others in your experience pool have accidents then your insurance cost goes up as well. I'm sure government regulations like Obamacare entered into their decision not to grow the business. If they are all considered owners and they hire an employee then the ballgame changes.

Brad,
I hear ya about not being spring chickens any more. I ran into the same issue a few years back with my business. It was exploding but I was at a point in my life where I was looking forward to winding down my workload, not building it into some mega all consuming lifestyle.
Whatever you decide to do I wish you well. We've been doing business together for a long time and you're just a victim of running your business at the highest level. Thanks for offering a great product and customer service at a very reasonable price.
Best of luck in whatever direction you choose.
Sal

Having been a CPA for nearly 50years, I have seen a lot more businesses fail because they decided to grow, rather than reach a comfortable level and stay there, making money. Growth is not the end all for a business. It often means changing your life, becoming a manager rather than a producer, hiring people who are untrained and unqualified, quality slippage, etc.
I had one client who started his business at his dining room table and grew it to over a billion dollars a year sales, and 5000 employees. He told me that what he was doing 10 years after he started had no relationship to what he did the first three years. To some people that is not worth it.

I recently ordered a couple thousand bullets and they were shipped to me promptly. So, I'm a little confused here.

That's just Brad's way of doing business.
Some guys will take your order and tell you they'll ship in 3 days and then MAYBE 3 weeks later your order goes out.
Whenever I've ordered from him over the years he was always up front about having a backlog and always delivered sooner than promised.

If your talking about him saying he's closing down excepting new orders from private customers and this was your first order with him, I don't know?

I think you mis-understood. As I got it if you have been ordering from him in the past, he will continue to accept and deliver your orders, your "grandfathered in" so to say. But he will not be accepting orders from private people who have never ordered from him before. That is so he can use his limited manufacturing capabilities to satisfy us and keep up with his commercial orders.

Part that confuses me is that he supposedly made this announcement on facebook, I don't do facebook so I haven't seen the release. What I do know is he hasn't said anything on his site about it? All I see is the statement that delivery is running 2 to 3 weeks behind depending on the product.
Ordered 1K .41 Keiths and 1K 38 Match last month and had them at the door in under 2 weeks.
Whatever Brad does I'm sure it will be fair to the best of his ability. I've been dealing with him for a long time and he's always been the straightest of shooters.

Okay, cool. I have always had good product and good service - hence the reason for repeat orders. Never had an issue and always completely satisfied.
I don't like to have to find new suppliers once I have found someone that works! If you know what I mean....
Probably have about 12,000 bullets from them over two years.... I shoot about 200 per session....

well, first, the facebook note said they were on the "verge" of making this change.

i wonder if they've backed off it or decided to hold off a bit given they've said they've hired more people to help them.

I've made 2 orders since this thread opened.
Both shipped within 72 hours.

This thread is no longer relevant and should be closed.
