Berry's Bullets 9mm load

I am trying to find some loading data for 115 grain RN Berry's bullets. I have Unique and Power Pistol powder available. Has anyone seen any published data for this?

Thanks for your help

Well Lyman's #49 has a 120 gn lrn with 4.0 to 5.0 of Unique & 5.0 to 5.6 of Power Pistol. If I were doing a load I would start at 10% lower than the start load for each. Maybe 3.5 of Unique & 4.4 of Power Pistol. OAL shows 1.065 but I like to stay around 1.125 to 1.130 for my SR9c. Hope this helps!

I use the plated bullets and stay on the low side (starting load) of the reloading guide for fmj of the same weight.

I think Accurate Arms powder reloading guide may have some but... haven't seen any in the Alliant powder reloading guide.

I haven't used Berry but I use Rainier (another plated bullet) extensively.

For 115gr, my intermediate range/training load with Power Pistol is:

CCI or Winchester small pistol primer
6.3 gr. Power Pistol (I have gone as high as 6.7 gr. without issue)
Rainier Ballistics 115 gr. TCJ-ENC-RN

Moderate taper crimp
COL = 1.145

I recently built 1k of the Berrys 115 in 9mm using Unique.

4.8 grn Unique, Berrys 115 Round nose, Tula primers, and an OAL of 1.155 this recipe works nicely for ME in MY firearms. YMMV. I run them through my 357/9mm Blackhawk, Firestar M43 9mm, and a friends Glock without issues.

Awards Showcase

I've used this chart for both Rainer and Berry's:

I would top out at 10% less than max for the Berry's with Unique. I loaded some to 1.135 col and a max of 5.7 Unique. CAUTION: THIS LOAD MAY BE TOO MUCH FOR YOUR GUN, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. You may like 5.3 grains better for range use.

I have been using the Berry's 115 gr. 9mm RN for about 2 years. After trying several different loads and reading lots of reloading manuals for 115 gr round nose FMJ bullets I have settled on a load with 5.0 gr. of Unique with CCI primers and a cartridge overall length of 1.090. I use Lee dies with the Lee factory crimp die and I use a moderately tight taper crimp. This is my normal practice load and I shoot it in my Ruger LC9, Beretta PX4 Subcompact, and S&W 5906. It's very reliable in all of these and reasonably accurate.

Thanks For Your Replies

I recently got an SR9c and found it to be about 3 times more fun to shoot than my other 9mm (a p95). I thought I'd try the Berry's to cut costs of shooting.

TAM212: Do you get any leading using 6.7 gr Power Pistol? I've been using 6.5 gr Power Pistol with Hornady 115gr XTP and it does about 1215 fps. I tried 6.7 gr and while it showed no signs of high pressure besides recoil I decieded that 6.5 gr was a bit more pleasant to shoot. I'm only making holes in paper targets.

No. I haven't noticed any leading using 6.7 gr.(which is maximum, if I recall, from the Hornady 8th manual). Although, I only made a small batch of 50 using this charge.

My typical range/practice load is 6.3 - 6.4 gr. with Rainier plated. I agree, maxed out loads are not needed for paper punching and leaves too small a margin for error, imho.

Plated bullets don't leave any leading.

I assumed as much but I have also heard that, if you drive plated bullets too hard, you could get leading since the plating is soft and relatively thin compared to jacketed bullets.

In an article of Handloader last year (can't remember which issue but it featured 9mm loading info), they also had an article about Berry's and Rainier. I think they mentioned Berry's and Rainier should be limited to ~ 1500fps max velocity.

Keep them under 1200 fps and you wont have any issues. Over that and the plating tends to peel and you can get leading. Also your target will look like it was shot with #9 pellets.

Thanks for posting that link. You can't get to the chart data using the normal navigation buttons on RaineirBalliastics website. I printed it out just in case they delete their "old_pages" folder.
