.45 Colt versatility

Left - 300 gr fp over 16 gr Accurate #9 (Blackhawk only load)
Right - 230 gr conical over 6 gr Titegroup
Center - 180 gr #8 shot over 6 gr Titegroup

Solid bullets are tumble lubed with an ALOX/beeswax blend.

The shotshell turned out better than I expected, producing a nice pattern about a foot across at 10 yards. It's not for bird hunting but should be great for snakes and rodents.

I haven't tested the Blackhawk only round yet but the others shoot great. Yes, I know not to shoot the Blackhawk round in the Uberti, it's just there because I think it's sexy.

heavy 45 colt loads in a six shot cylinder exceed safe 44 mag loads. 45 colt loads in a custom 5 shot cylinder exceed 45/70 loads.

Nice Uberti. Reloading is fun because every cartridge can be made versatile from the user's standpoint. Have fun!

Beautiful pistol. Don't shoot those heavy loads in it, though.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Are you referring to chamber pressures or muzzle energy?

Either way, I'm not sure that any .45 Colt loads available commercially exceed the pressure or muzzle energy of a maximum .44 Magnum. The .45-70, on the other hand, is often loaded to low pressures, because of the Trapdoor Springfields still out there.

Of course, there are people who handload .45 Colt to .454 Casull pressures and beyond...

Blackhawk rounds

I was all set to warn you about trying hot loads in that Uberti...and then I reread your post. I see you already knew that. Yes the hot loads listed in most manuals are for Thompson Center and Blackhawks, and Yes they kick ***. I agree with you...that Uberti is gorgeous.

I absolutely love the versatility of the 45LC. I keep thinking I need a BH in 44 mag but I can do pretty darn close with my 45LC handloads. I whipped up some 250g LFP over 20g of #9 and got about 1300fps and that was just the starting point.
