Check out what I found at the range today

I'm posting this in the reloading forum simply because I'm ASSUMING this may have been a reloading mishap. We'll likely never know for sure what happened to this poor wheelgun, but it sure was a surprise to find this about 15 yds down range while scavenging for range brass.

Anyone care to guess what make/model firearm? Taurus perhaps based on matte stainless finish.

Here are a couple more angles if anyone is interested...

I'm not really sure why I felt compelled to share these photos. It's just an interesting curiosity wondering how this came to be and what the back story could be???

WoW...That must have been a surprise. Makes me wonder why it was left at the range.

I found it about 15 yards down range in the grass. Judging by it's rusty condition, I'd guess it was lost last fall in the tall grass and they weren't able to find it (or didn't bother looking). It looks like it spent the winter out there on the range. The snow cover is now finally gone and I was apparently the first diligent brass scounger of the season.

.... OR perhaps this occured during the winter and it was lost in the snow? This particular range is open year round.

So many questions with no real answers. It is fun to speculate though....

A couple years ago I found a new Walther 9mm pistol at our range. I was there early (6am) and saw a bag on a shooting bench. Looking inside was the pistol, factory ammo and other stuff. No one else was around. When leaving I posted on the bullitan board and left my phone number. Guy called me later and ID'd the stuff, met him and boy was he ever happy. Wanted to give me $50 bucks but I refused his offer. Never did ask him how or why he left it there.

It appears to be a 357 but I haven't tried to chamber a piece of brass to verify.

Yep, bad day.

I can't tell from the pictures, is it from a SA revolver (no extractor star) or a DA revolver ?

My first impression was a Colt or a Colt clone ?
