What Lowegan, just stated in reference to Bonk's appraisal of the .380. Out here the temps get up around 120 degrees, so the usual attire is cargo shorts, and a T-shirt or tank top. My little .380 in a Beretta Nano comes in pretty handy as a concealable weapon that beats the heck out of a sharp stick. BTW I can place all the rounds in the thoracic cavity in about 7 seconds or less from the 7 yard line. Now, most of the time I carry a 9mm, or .45acp, or even my recently acquired .44 Bulldog with two speedy loaders in easy access.

I sort my brass by headstamp so I usually catch 380 at that point

You can shoot the heart out with a 500 magnum, if the spine is intact an assailant has enough time to kill you. I saw a man shot at 10 yards with a 12 gauge slug, and was still standing. He did not drop until one of the 38 spl bullets hit his spine, then he dropped like a bag of potatoes.

I usually carry a 9mm Largo, but I have absolutely no problem carrying a 380, or even a 22lr.

Most people stop when they are shot, because they want to stop.

You are right I hear guys talking about a pistol with knock down power. Unless you make a head , spine or maybe a pelvic bone hit the perp is going to be standing looking at you and maybe shooting back!

Most criminals will avoid a suspected armed victim.
Most will run at the presentation of a gun.
Most will run at the sound of a gunshot.
Most will run when hit by a bullet.

But I'm not counting on it.
I will continue to fire until they stop, drop, or flee

I knew when I posted that all the 380 owners would get their panties in a wad but I didn't think they'd be this defensive. Sheesh. I wasn't trolling. I was just goofing around. Guys do that to each other (no offense Pampurrs). It's just harmless banter. I retract my statement about the Mighty 380 and beg forgiveness. As an act of penance I'm gonna get rid of my 460S&W but I'm keeping my 454, 45 Colt, 45ACP, 44mag, 44spl, 41mag, 10mm and itty bitty 40S&W. I'm willing to go small as long as it begins with a '4'.

Well you better practice head shots, because no handgun caliber is a proven stopper.

As far as sorting, just use a funnel, and a can. Cut the end of the funnel where the 380 just barely drops through but the 9mm won't. Throw away, or give away the contents of the can.

After I shoot I open the cylinder and dump the rounds into a box. No problem. Don't own a .380 so can't comment on the wimpy round.

I do have a 9x18 Mak a similar round but buy one and done ammo. I did make some cases for it our of regular 9x19 cases. A real pain in the butt as you have to fireform after you trim down and load. Mix them up with 9x19 cases at the range and try to recover. I painted the headstamp to help but just too much of a pain.

That's pretty much what I said, minus the headshot part.

What I mean is, I hate when I'm at the range next to someone firing a 380, and I sweep up my brass with my little broom and dustpan, and end up with a bunch of 380 mixed in with my 9mmbrass.

So I end up visually checking all the brass that I brought home, looking for that very slight difference in length. What a pain.

Would someone please invent a device that separates 9mm from 380?!?

<end of rant>

Pam
They invented a great little .380 acp sorter...my granddaughter & she loves it. If I ultrasonic clean the brass, she also loves putting it out to dry on a towel & getting it the next day after school & it's dry.

I personally think .380 acp is a great little round & my pair of Sig P238's are a great CCW for it. I want to get the Browning 4.25" 1911 & it's on my watch list.

If you guys would give up those new fangled autos, and stick with revolvers, you wouldn't have to sort brass.

Sorting 380 and 9mm is a pain. I also dislike sorting small primer from large primer 45acp.
