Luger Handloads

Looking for info to make some vintage luger ammo. I have some 124gr FMJ which I believe was standard weight bullet back then. I recall reading somewhere they need fairly potent loads to cycle correctly. I have Power Pistol, HP-38 and a few other powders on hand, would love to hear some experienced suggestions !

I would make 8 test loads at the starting load, mid-range & 8 toward the upper end of your reloading manual, using standard SP primers & a cartridge overall length(C.O.L.) that will fit your magazine & cycle reliably. Take some notes & test function & accuracy. When I used HP-38, I got acceptable results, but now have my best results with the slower CFE Pistol.
124 grain was the original standard.

Let us know your test results.

Assuming 9mm Luger, Hodgdon Reloading Data (HERE) shows Hp38 + 124gr HBRN TP = 3.9-4.4gr. HBRN stands for hollow base round nose.

If your bullet is a round nose, the COL of 1.125" should work, but you should make a couple of dummies and manually test pistol feed if you are unsure of a COL.

As usual, the pistol powder range is so small you should only need to test 4.0, 4.2, 4.4gr and go from there.

It is still just a 9x19. My P08s do fine with standard loads, same as I use in all my other 9x19s.
Surprisingly, all my P-08s feed and shoot 115gn and 124gn L-SWCs just fine.
I haven't found anything special about them in terms of loading.
Heck, even the Lee 105gn L-SWC does quite well.
