I'd say it depends on what you're looking for. I dry tumble with my "mix" for media (75% corn cob blast media 14-20, and 25% HF 1/4" pyramid resin media) and if I want shiny brass (for my Garand and 45 ACP brass so I can find my empties) I just leave it in longer. Most of my tumbled brass isn't shiny, just clean. I use an auto wax in the media to leave a thin coat to retard tarnish and this works quite well for me. I've tried all the popular methods (I reloaded for 12 years before I tumbled any brass, just wipe cases with solvent dampened rag) and settled on dry tumbling with blast media. Amount of shine is directly related to time in the tumbler...

Mine get shiny when tumbled in corncobs and non-ammonia polish, but any tarnishing that was there before is unaffected by the tumbling.

I did a few experiments with some of dirty brass. I didn't have and brass polish or the Nu-Finish wax or any real car wax to speak of. I did however have a bottle of the spray on wax that one would use to "touch up" a already waxed truck. I gave it about 6-8 squirts and i did notice a difference.

The next experiment I used an aluminum cleaner (not a polish) in my media. I also noticed a difference in the brass shine.
