Reloading bullets for the mini 14

What bullets are you guys having the best luck accuracy wise in your Mini 14s?? Have you noticed the 5.56 shoots better or worse than the .223?? I'm having trouble finding a load that has good enough accuracy for coyote hunting. I've only tried Hornady 55g & 60g VMax so far,but with about 5 or 6 different powders.

My 581 Tactical does well with Hornady 55 gr FMJBT and 60 gr SP over CFE223.

I use the 60 V-Max ove CFE-223, it's a great round.

I'm using Hodgdon Benchmark in my 52-55 gr .223 loads for my new 583 series Mini 14.

Thanks guys. Benchmark is 1 of the powders I used with the 55g & 60 g VMax but I haven't tried CFE-223that's 1 of the powders I was going to try and get. I also have the 50g VMax I was going to try too. I've been doing my testing at 40 yards and about 2" groups is the best I've gotten so far,if it was at 100 yards I wouldn't be QUITE as concerned.

I rechecked the target and it's actually 1 1/4" at 40 yards,not 2".

I wish this forum had an "edit" button

So at 100 yards it would be probably a little over 2",don't think that would be very good for coyote hunting at 100-200 yards.

I've been planning to try CFE223 for my 197 series ranch with Winchester's 64gr PSP. Haven't tried it yet. May also try Varget, but I have to find a suitable recipe. For some reason, the 64gr PSP seems to be a rare bullet.

55 gr Hornady v-max over Varget, gets mine under a couple inches at 100 yards. I also had Ruger Mini Remington AR10 AR15 Accuracy Custom Accurate Rifles Barrel rework the trigger in my older mini 14.

55 grain Hornady SP shoots OK in mine. It really likes Sierra 65 great boat tail Game Kings though.
