IMR 8208 XBR for the 5.56 Mini 14

I bought some of this powder last year and tried some different loads in a 1-9 Mini 14, but cannot find results. If I remember right, it was better with the 62 grain bullet than the 55 and might even be better with the 69 grn MK.
Has anyone worked up any loads using the IMR 8208?
The accuracy seemed pretty good if memory serves, but not the best, but I'd sure like some opinions from any who have tried it.
I have far more 55grn bullets to load than 62 grain and still have quite a few 69 grn. MK.
I've had some decent results with the AA 2230; what your thoughts on it.
I'm going to load some more with the 8208, then switch to Varget and see how it compares. I'm out of H335.
The 8208 is touted as a great BR powder; small stick type. The thing I like about it is that it has a temp range from -14 degrees all the way up to high temps without changing velocity or burn rate.
I live in Idaho and it does get to 40 below every now and then and we'll have temps in the 80's and 90's in summer, so it may be an ideal powder if I can find an accurate load for several bullet weights.
It does have a faster burn rate than AA2230, BLC-2, and the H335 Hodgdon.

Thanks, John

Thanks Sgt. I've looked at the site you posted last year, I already worked up some loads, which cycled just fine, I just can't find the targets that I used. I think the wife tossed them and don't remember the exact group size or loads used. At the time, I was testing at least 4 different powders with multiple loads.
Just wanted to know if anyone else had good success with this powder, if I remember, groups were well under 2"

I use XBR for bigger calibers (30-06 for example). For 223, Winchester 748, CCI Primers and Sierra 55g HPBT are pretty solid for me:

I run 8208 in my AR with a custom match barrel and I love the stuff! Your 1-9 barrel will do much better with heavy bullets. Mine is 1-8 and I stay with the 62 to 75gn stuff. It did take quite a bit of work to find good loads but I dont have any groups over 3/8 to 1/2 at 100 and stay at or under 1" at 200. I worked up loads with each bullet in 2 tenths increments and found that with some loads 2 tenths made a big difference. Also found in my rifle near max loads are the most accurate. Good luck but dont give up!

I've used it in my ARs and with 55 gr. Hornady FMJBT with collet bullets. It's been a while and I don't remember my best load but I got down to 1" groups at 100 yds with a 1 in 9 twist barrel.

You just have to start at the bottom load and hunt what your rifle likes. It's a hot powder so I've backed off it some as Win748 is the most accurate I load. .50 groups with the above bullets at 100 yards.

Thanks for the reply's. I did find a few targets finally that were shot at 65 yards, five shot .6's and .7's. The powder does work. I made up a bunch of loads to try out, but am waiting until I put my Farrell mount on my new Mini so I can get it sighted in again and then shoot some nice groups.
For what ever reason, my rifle just does not like H335. It does well with AA 2230.
It's a 580 series Ranch, bedded, re crowned muzzle and a wicked nice trigger. And yes, it is a hot, faster burning powder than most used in the .223's.
I want to try the 8208 in my .308 also. It's an accurized Savage and is a real shooter, better than I am.

Thanks, John

I've been talking with some guys on the AR forum about XBR and 75gr OTM loads, might want to take a peek there. A bunch of 3 gunners are running 23.1 gr +/- .2gr XBR with the 75gr/77gr OTM bullets. Lots of good info there for sure. I started working the 75gr Hornady with Varget but will be switching to XBR given it's popularity there.
