.357 Brass Shortage??

Seems I went to all my local Firearm stores here. They are all out of .357 Brass.

Even tried Starline whom accepted my order but told me they are out of stock.

Looked to me in the stores (including Sportsman's Warehouse) had a very poor selection on the shelves of powders and primers. No .357 brass either.

Anyone have an idea what is going on? I can believe everyone is stocking up, but there seemed to be plenty of brass for other calibers everywhere.

Is the .357 mag really that popular?

Gotta feed my 2 GP-100's !

Just wondering what is going on.

Hi,

I too have been wondering what the deal is. I suppose it could be people buying up supplies, but I expected more shortages of firearms and ammunition than components. I don't think it was this bad when the OSHA threat was on a year or two ago... Check out midway brass and bullets, most items are out of stock...

It sort of make me wonder if this is an on purpose technique by the manufacturers to keep prices high now that metals have come down...

Thanks,

Alan

Found Brass

Managed to find Blue Star Cartridge and Brass on the net.

I asked and they had Starline .357 Mag in stock so I ordered it.

Should keep me happy for a while.

Made me nervous a bit when Starline themselves told me they were out of stock at their factory!

Oh well.

2 Reasons

I live within driving distance of GRAFS Mexico MO and had the wife pick up 8 pounders of TITEGROUP and HP-38 (231) plus a 4 pounder of HERCO last month. I usually have an order when she goes past GRAFS to visit her sister. I've already experienced sticker shock on primers and did some looking...$25 per thousand is about as cheap as I've found

Reason 1. There's a war on...Afghanistan and Iraq. During the 80s, finding 357 or 45 ACP brass was tough. Contrarily, there's plenty of 9 mm brass available now. There was a primer shortage somewhere in that era also.

Reason 2. Mr. Obama won the election. Even before, the gun shops were going crazy on black rifles, semi automatic handguns...h---, semi-automatic anything with magazines....and reloading components have gone through the roof. The rookie panic buyers aren't knowledgable enough to get bullet casting and reloading equipment or to stockpile components...they think of a couple boxes of ammo as an adequate supply.

Gunbroker has been my source for brass lately. The largest lots of 357 or 44 have been 500 casings...and usually less. Why do those bozos persist in listing 100 or less casings...the shipping cost per round becomes ridiculous!

I'll do a lot of comparison shopping (and factor in the HAZMAT fees) and keep stocking up on powder and primers. I've got some brass...and a back stop to mine for lead. LOL.
