The main improvement is it doesn't shoot the next round up and out of the rifle when you cock it. But the other improvements makes it easier to load and cock.

I have Marlins and Winchesters and they don't or haven't as of yet shot live rounds up out of the action when I cock them...

The 92 Winchester is a lever action designed to shoot a 44-40 but the Rossi 357/38 is differant and doesn't chamber the same. Like someone else mentioned you don't have to make the modifications but it sure improves the rifle.

. I didn't even know such a thing existed. Not sure why someone would want a rifle chambered for .38spl though, other then for practice at an indoor range only. | A .357 carbine is fairly close to a 30-30 in ballistics, is light and handy, and can be very cheap to shoot with .38 spcl factory ammo. What's not to like?
A .44 magnum carbine has been on my list for a long time, but I ended up getting a .480 ruger SRH and .480 carbines are hard to find. I might just yet end up with a .357 carbine since I carry a .38 revolver anyway...

I own a JRC carbine chambered in 9mm, Why you may ask?....It allows me to shoot dirt cheap centerfire rounds and I can bring a couple pistols and only worry about packing one caliber.

Whatever it was, I would be reluctant to fire any centerfire rifle in an indoor range because of the extra energy even a pistol caliber generates. It beats up the backstop deflector something fierce. I know that our club prohibits it.

I haven't shot indoors in years. But I agree it does take a better backstop.

Loved that gun and will have another. | If get another Lever Action it will be an older Marlin...not a knocking the Rossi, I just never looked beyond Winchester and Marlin when it came to lever actions.
I'm familiar enough with the marlins to know where their achilles heel is, and how to fix them if I need to, that goes a long way towards keeping me from looking elswhere...
I have to say the 77/357 and 77/44 are sweet rifles and even though they aren't getting much mention here. They are none the less another option...and a good one.
Added bonus, there isn't anything you gotta do to them other than clean em and shoot em. I do like that!
