This thread is not to debate the value of the .380 as a self defense weapon.
There are a lot of times I cannot carry my compact 9mm with it being as hot as it currently is in Texas. I actually prefer my Browning Hi-Power as a carry, but that is only possible in winter. I have had my LCP for almost two years now and recently have been shooting it a lot. I am at the range every Tuesday and typically run about 100-150 rounds of reloads though my Browning, my compact 9mm and about 25-50 rounds of CCI Blazer through the LCP. I would estimate that the LCP has total about 250-300 rounds of CCI Blazer plus 25-50 rounds of Hornady 380 Auto 90 gr FTX® Critical Defense which I carry in it. The LCP initially when it was new had an intermittent feed problem. This cleared up after about 100 rounds of CCI Blazer. FWIW I found that Winchester .380 rounds were problematic in the LCP. To date the LCP has been rock solid both with CCI Blazer and the Hornady rounds, the accuracy has improved dramatically. This probably is due to me getting used to the LCP, but more so to getting some shoot time on the LCP. Yesterday at the range the LCP performed impeccably with center mass and head shots from 30-40 feet. Recognizing that the LCP is an "in your face" firearm I more than pleased with its performance.

The Winchester FMJ target ammo, AKA WWB, in any caliber is suspect at the least in my opinion. I also have an LCP & my carry ammo is Hornady Critical Defense. I haven't fired any ball ammo thru it because I'll never use it when I'm CC'ing it.
Lately I've noticed that Winchester is outsourcing some it's ammo just to keep up with demand. Last week I bought a box of WWB in 9MM & the head of the casing was stamped with "CCI" instead of the usual "WIN".

I was at the range last week and was firing my last box of flat nose WWB thru the LCP.
I noticed this ammo was cleaner because it normally clouds the lens on the Crimson Trace. When I got home the LCP was cleaner then normal. I bought the WWB about 2 weeks ago to try in my wife's LCP.
IF Winchester is outsourcing as VietVet68 says this may explain the cleaner ammo.
I have shot enought WWB to notice the difference.
Good eye VietVet68, I didn't think to look at the stamp.

If for any reason you want to use Winchester ammunition I would recommend avoiding the WWB at all costs! It consistantly measures over SAAMI maximum C.O.A.L. specifications. I do not use it in any of my firearms. To me it is the equivalent of the plague to be strictly avoided regardless of tempting pricing! Winchester's "Ranger" line of ammunition is much higher quality but the price reflects this very well. An equivalent economical ammunition to WWB that functions consistantly and won't collapse your wallet is Federal American Eagle. It burns cleaner, hits more accurately & most importantly has a very consistant cartridge overall length (C.O.A.L) that is well under SAAMI's specified maximum values. It feeds masterfully in every firearm I own and always goes "bang" due to the superior components used in assembly.

I'm thinking about an LCP for those occasions where I'm walking around my neighborhood in gym shorts that I can't really carry my LCR or XDS without my pants falling down.
It would be rarely used/carried as I am loving my new XDS and still trust my LCR with my life, but it would fit a need.

My idea was to compare the 2 and get rid of one, BUT, big problem, I can't sell either one. |
