I took a buddy that I work with to the gun range I beloag to. This is the first time he has ever shot a handgun. I let him shoot my Ruger P89 & P90. He did very good! He wants to get a carry permit here in Tenn. I taught him how to shoot and how to be safe with it too. He is hooked on the Ruger P89. He says that he will proably get a P89. He really likes the saftey on the Ruger P series. And so do I. Got one more person to get into shooting. Next time I take him, he is going to shoot some of my rifles. gearyr.

Thank you, Sir!!!! That's what we're all supposed to do...sounds like you did it perfectly...made a good friend who'll be able to stand with you if/when trouble comes...both your families will benefit and in the meantime....lots of fun!!!!!!

That is great. He might want to hurry if he wants a P89, rumor is Ruger is not making them anymore with the introduction of their new 9mm. I just got the Ruger magazine that is put out every year, and the P89 is NOT listed in the catalog in the back.

Why do they do that? I don't have a P89, but know people who do and they swear by them...tkarter for one and one of my co-workers. They still sell, shoot good and appeal to a lot of people. It's kind of like down-sizing companies I guess. As soon as sales, etc. drop a bit, some bean counter is looking to cut back on expenses. It's OK to make 3 different series of 9mms in my opinion. They are more 9mms sold each year than the rest of the auto calibers combined.

I wish I knew why. It does not make sense to me, as the P89 is, from what I can gather, their BEST selling pistol! I guess they think the SR9 is going to completely replace it in our hearts and minds, but I will be keeping my P89. I am perfectly happy to have a gun with no mag disconnect, no safety, no loaded chamber indicator and one I can dry fire all day long with or without the magazine in place.

I'm glad your friend was much more receptive to it than one of my longtime friends was. Awhile back I intructed him on how to safely handle, then shoot my Taurus PT92 9mm.

One shot was all he wanted to take. His cousin though is my best friend and has just returned from Afghanistan a second time. If I let him shoot my PT92, unlike his cousin, the ground would soon be covered in a shallow sea of 9mm casings. :D
