SR1911 9mm range report

Got to take the new SR1911 9mm out today and shoot it. Our local range is a short inside range only 30 feet deep. Run about 100 rounds through it shooting the last guys target he left hanging, looser. After putting up my target and aiming well this was the groups I was able to get out of it. It has way better ability than me and I'm sure we'll both get better. The only issue I had (if it's even an issue) was getting hit with empties, they are in my pockets and in my hood and even got a couple behind my glasses?? The SR1911 shots are the four outer corner targets and the middle is my American 9mm at 30 feet.

Shooter606 ... Congrats on your new SR1911. Sorry to hear your brass is not being properly directed to the side. While not an expert on this issue, I have experienced it with two of my 1911s. In one case the extractor had to be adjusted and in the other a slight change was made to the geometry of the extractor face. If you're not comfortable with "tuning" your extractor, this is likely a appropriate time to call Ruger or consult a local smith. Good luck

If he is shooting indoors, it may not be a direct problem with the ejector - he is probably getting hit by brass that rebounds off of the lane dividers.

So is the 1911 9mm that much easier to group with than the RA or did I miss something there?

Nice grouping at 30 feet. I do agree you spent casings might be bouncing off the walls. Not a problem with the gun. Next time you, ask someone to watch and see what that them see. Might solve the question. Very nice weapon.

I had both at the range and since the American is my carry gun I put them both against each other, for me yes the SR1911 is easier to control. The SR could be bouncing the brass off the walls but if it is it does worse than any other gun I have shot there, could be the angles but they hit me in the face and last Monday at our league shoot I ended up with many in my pockets and my jacket hood. I'm not concerned about it till I get some time with it outdoors and see where they go.

I picked up one of the SR1911 9mm probably 6 months or so ago. I believe it was early August 2016.

That is one sweet shooting gun. I ran into a friend at the range and we both shot it. Probably 100 rnds of Remington UMC 115 gr yellow box plus he had some loose Blazer ammo he ran through it.
Hopefully Ruger got the magazine issues resolved. Mine and others on the other Ruger forum had problems with the factory Checkmate International magazines. One of the problems I was experiencing was as it was feeding the chamber would release a 2nd round. I'd drop the magazine and a loose round would fall out the magazine port/well.
Some of us so found with the fully loaded Checkmate 9 round mags it was hard real hard to even get the magazines started into the magazine port. I had already sent the original 2 mags back to Ruger. I didn't think of it until someone brought it up I should have tried it loading 7 or 8 rnds.
Ruger replaced both of the 2 magazine that came with it not once but twice ,then they finally wanted the gun back and it came back with 2 more different magazines.. I haven't fired it since but I'm on factory magazines 5 & 6.

Like I said I haven't had it back out since it's trip back to Prescott but messing with it at home it seems to be working as it should now. I have also since bought 3 of the Wilson Combat Elite 10 rnd magazines that should solve any problem I might have with the Checkmates.

I have a 3 other SR1911's in 45 ACP. I have the Full size Gov't, a CMD and the Lightweight CMD. I haven't fired them all that much but so far I haven't had the first bit of trouble out any of them, it's just been with this 9mm.
I really need to take it back out and run it through the paces ,but I've been messing with my LCPII and my Sig P238 which have a higher priority right now.

For those interested here's a link to the 9mm issues RugerForum.com ? View topic - SR 1911 9mm

That will get you in the right place and there's several other threads about the SR1911 9mm if you look around.
