Mark IV report

I've had my new Mark IV target for a couple weeks and finally got to the range today. I added a Vortex Venom red dot and the Ruger Mark IV grips. I used a bore sighter to get the red dot on paper. Anyway, first time out it was driving tacs. Unfortunately, the temps were in the low 30s and windchill in the 20s so I only put 40 rounds through it. Dang, cold temps on your fingers then pickup an ice cold gun is tough.

Now, out of 40 rounds, I had 3 fail to fire. I was shooting Remington ammo and each round seemed to have solid hammer strikes. I'm hoping it was an ammo issue.

I'd suggest trying other ammo.

Whenever I get a failure to fire I just rotate the round 90 to 180 degrees and try again. They usually go bang the second time through.

Awards Showcase

I have had worse luck with Remington .22 ammo than about any other major brand.

Mk IV

Congrats on the new Mk IV. I've got one also, but due to weather I've only put 60 rnds. through it- CCI Minimag, Win Super X & Blazer all worked fine. No Rem. used because of prior bad experience.

Yep, sounds like the ammo. Try some CCI Mini Mags or SV.

I'm betting that it's the ammo. I've had failures with Remington and Federal but Ive never had a failure with CCI. I use CCI Standard Velocity in my target guns and Minimags for my Rifle and revovlers. I've also had good luck with Aguila.

Congrats on getting the IV. I've been lusting after them since I first saw them. I want the stainless Target model.

I have been eyeballing the Mark IV as well. I initially bought rimfire pistols in order to get my wife on board with the culture but I have developed an affinity for them now too. I found a non-fired Mark II target (mid 60s vintage) at an estate sale and paid $200 for it. Best shooter ever! Bought a Browning stainless target and a Walther PPQ 5 inch target now too. Next one is going to be the Mark IV.

Did you check the appearance of the firing pin impression for both the failed to fire case and one that went bang? If they appear to be the same then it very likely is the ammo. I want one of the MK IV Hunters.

I should mentioned too that the grips came from ShopRuger. Normally priced $70 but I used the 20% coupon (for registering a new gun) and got them for $56. They are very nice 2 piece grips that fit so well it's very difficult to tell they are 2 piece.
