Range locations near SW Ohio?

This might not be the proper place for this question but.... how does one go about finding a shooting range? I'm in Ohio just west of Dayton and besides "Point Blank" where does one go to shoot pistols as well as long guns? I have not been shooting since 1983 when every gun we owned (except one) was stolen and I have not replaced anything till earlier this year. I bought my dream gun, a Remington 1911R1 Enhanced full stainless .45. I soon found out that the .45 is heaps fun to shoot but a little costly so in came the Ruger SR22 "fun gun" and today I bought the Ruger American pistol in a 9mm, also own a pre-war 7mm FN Mauser "sport rifle" that I can't find a good place to shoot it? Most of the outdoor ranges I found are membership only places. Anybody know any good outdoor places to shoot with friendly people??

In the greater Dayton area there are a few open to the public in addition to Point Blank.

Vandalia Range & Armory - Indoor 25 yard pistol range (20 lanes) plus indoor 100 yard rifle range (5 lanes). They are also days away from opening a new indoor facility in New Castle Indiana (not sure how far west you are).

Fox Shooting Loft in Fairborn - Indoor 25 yard pistol range (5 lanes).

Miami Valley Shooting Grounds in Vandalia - Indoor pistol range up to 50' and outdoor rifle range up to 90 yards.

Sim Trainer on South Dayton - Indoor pistol and rifle range.

Hope it helps

Thanks for the locations, I went over to the Point Blank range and could not believe the amount of people in there waiting to shoot. Most of them were young "kids" with rifle cases and the wait was well over 2 hours. The people that worked there were not real friendly, not a place for me. I have talked with a few older shooters around me and found out that most of the outdoor ranges close to me have been shut down by the state for lead removal, one nice place now has soccer fields on it.

There are some nice outdoor ranges run by the ODNR ... Go to their website and you'll find them.

Never having been there i'm going to quote what I was told about the DNR range at Spring Valley,..."Any active shooters can call cease fire at any time to walk down range to replace targets" the guys that warned me said it's a huge nightmare to shoot there as the range is held up every 5 minuets so someone can swap out a target. I will take their info with a grain of salt and check it out first hand to be sure but that does sound like it would be no fun.

I have been to Spring Valley once. We stopped on our way down to the NRA meeting in Louisville last year. I have also been to 2 other ranges run by the ODNR and yes anyone can request a cease fire. I have found it's not as often as one may think. When I shoot at one of the rifle ranges I can easily put 50 rounds down range before being asked to cease fire. Depending on what targets I am shooting that's a good point for me to change out targets also. Best thing is it only cost $5 for the whole day at the range (you need to buy the permit in advance). So when we go, we make it a full day with various firearms tucked into our cases. It really isn't that bad IMHO but YMMV.

Shooter 606, there are a few private clubs in the area, in addition to the open clubs BUCKJM53 listed. I myself am a member of the Miamisburg Sportsman Club. An outdoor range but you must be a member to use. Send me a PM if you want additional information.
