Fun time at the range

Was at the range the other day helping a friend sight in his Browning A bolt in 7 mag. There were a few others there shooting various high end rifles and all were shooting decent groups.
We finished getting his 7 mag sighted in and I decided to check my wife's 243. It's a Remington 700 with a factory stock that I painted and shortened for her. The barrel isn't even floated.
I took 1 shot and hit the center of the Bulls eye. Sorry I didn't get pics. I offered to let another guy shoot it and he put it in the same hole I shot. Then let another shoot and he put about 1/4" under the first 2 shots.
Needless to say I was feeling a little proud of my wife's rifle with my hand loads.
No real point to this thread, just bragging.

Brag away. A little extra effort goes a long way when doing your own loads. :D

I love it! That's why I always read Range Reports here on the forum. Happiness is out-shooting big money guns with your home modified "entry level" rifle and your own loads. It sounds like your wife's rifle shoots well regardless of who is pulling the trigger. Nice!

Hey those Rem. 700's are very accurate rifles I had a Rem. 700 ADL several years back yea one of those I sold now wanting to kick myself! Shot my biggest deer with that rifle. Yes to the OP you have the right to Bragg just like I did my son in law sighting in his Savage 7mm Mag. I got board and when he wasn't shooting I pulled out my Ruger GP100 Wiley Clapp 3 inch barreled revolver we were at the 200 yard range. At the end of this range one side was a steel rabbit target the other side a steel coyote. Well my firs couple of shots my sone in law said you are hitting 10-12 feet to high! So off hand I took the front brass bead on my revolver & held just at the very top of the coyotes head I fired and Gong went the target I think I actually hit it twice. Well I thought holy $hit I hit the darn target!!! I turned and looked at my son in law without saying a word I could read his eyes lucky smart a$$. Yea it's fun to brag when you have a good reason to!!! BTW good shooting to the OP!!!

Thanks for all the kind words gentlemen!

I find myself at a point in life where I could afford those high end firearms, but as long as I keep getting good results with "off the shelf" rifles, I'll probably save the extra $ and put it towards something else.

I have 8 grandkids, 4 boys and 4 girls, ranging from 2 to 14 and will be introducing all of them to shooting/hunting.
I plan on giving each of them a good shooting rifle so that's my motivation not to buy myself a real custom tack driver.

It doesn't hurt to be nice to yourself once and awhile if you can afford it. :D But it is fun when you can take that lower end off the shelf and give the "big boys" a run for the money too. :p

YUPPER. Brag away. :D Good shooting, and 243 is an inherently accurate round.

A 270 win Reminton 700 ADL I bought new in 1987 at kmart is one of the most accurate long range rifles Ive ever owned. Its spent many a time out shooting high dollar rilfes. ;)

After a range day @ 500 yard shooting with several guys with high dolllar magnum calibers, I was smoking them bad.

Back in the day, my brothers nick named it the AT&T 270. Cause you can reach out and touch someone. ( if you remember that commercial ). :p

Remington 700's are a damn fine rifle's IMO. Mine are all 25 + years old, and I will NEVER part with any of them. They are all great shooters.

Back in the early 70's or maybe late 60's, I picked up a Remington Model 788 in 243. Paid $99.00 + tax for the little gun. I shot many pigeons for my Dads cats to finish cleaning up. Took it prairie dog hunting one summer with some friends. The scope was a 4 power and I was shooting prairie doggies so far away that all I could see through the scope was the tails and nose. Guys I was with estimated at about 400 yds. That darn little rifle also sent many Richardson Ground Squirrels to the happy hunting ground. Around where I grew up they are pests and eat everything in sight including many farm crops. After I got married I wanted to buy a new compound bow so was going to sell the rifle. My father in law bought it from me then. He still has it, although I do not have his daughter, thank goodness for that. My oldest son will get the rifle when grandma dies. She claimed it as her own and loves to shoot it. I have seen some at gun shows that look well used and beat up going for 4-5 times what I paid for it.
