SR 22p Mods.

Here's a few pics of the Mods. I'm working on. Need a camera so excuse bad quality. Does anybody like gold inlay? I've done it on a few of my guns and it really makes them stand out.

From what I'm seeing in the pictures, it looks great! How well does it hold up?

The gold inlay looks sharp. I like the accenting. What did you do to have gold inlay? Can other colors/metallics be used? And what is the durability of the work? It's a great idea

It seems to be holding up great. I use CLP and Kleanbore gun wipe and it doesn't fade it. I carry it all the time and my LCP which has the Ruger name in gold and it's doing great to. I'm using gold powder and two part epoxy. I've had the gold for years from my mom and decided to try it. It has a cool look but you have to work super fast to get the excess off before it sets (5 Min.). I clean up with denatured alcohol and cotton swabs. On another forum I saw a guy using Rustoleum enamel (all colors) with great results and a heck of a lot cheaper!

The slide is aluminum, I believe it can be anodized any color you want. I've seen a red one somewhere.
I know nothing about the process.

I understand on the aluminum slide, but isn't the removable grip plastic & won't that be a durability problem with the flexibility of the plastic?

The directions are below. The grips on the SR 22 are not plastic. Some sort of hybrid polymer. The biggest complaint about the SR 22 is getting the grips off to swap them. It's very hard and almost no flex. It's been to the range and in my pocket for two weeks and looks just like it did when I put it on. Don't forget this isn't paint, it's two part epoxy with gold powder mixed in. It should only come off if the epoxy completely wears off? Not an easy task?
We'll see, I'll keep you posted if it starts to wear

Are you carrying the SR22 instead of your LCP or are your carrying both? How do you have space for your knives?

Project status after the range.

The gold inlay on the SR 22p grips weren't fazed after 250 rounds. The painted guide rod got some mild scratches down the sides but not too bad and the end, which is why I did it, was undamaged. It gives it a look with the shiny barrel and the shiny guide rod end. I've since added the Laserlyte V3 compact and it's fantastic. It hangs a little in the holster I made for the SR 22 because of the rail screw but I'm going to grind the screw on each side Today and fix that. I've modified the pocket holster three times already just to get the right fit and it's working good. When the gold comes off I'll let you guys know.... ; )

I added a Steve Bedair Stainless Steel Guide Rod when I got mine, it made my slide tighten up and cycle better. I think there was too much play in the slide before, don't really know why. Gun has always functioned 100% but just feels better since I changed out the guide rod.

Actually, I really like the looks of it. Good job! I just don't think that I have the patience to try it.
