Ruger SR40 Upgrades

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and also new to owning a handgun. I've handled and fired many weapons, just never got to own one until I got my own place. I just got married so this was my gift to myself...My wife hated the idea but I turned her around quickly. Im almost at the point of where Im buying her something small and perfect for her size. 3 weeks ago, she would of just yelled at me for suggesting it.

Anyway I recently bought a SR40 Ruger new for $475+tax, I know you can get them cheaper online but I like to support my neighborhood businesses. So far I have nothing but great things to say about this handgun. This gun fits so well in my hands. So I was checking out some of the modifications on the forum and decided to get something from Galloway. I bought the Blackened Stainless Steel Guide and Spring 22LB (same as stock). I originally wanted to go with the 20LB, but I figured being a newbie I'd just stick with the stock LB rate. I also bought the Aluminum polished striker indicator. I installed the guide/spring by myself (took about 2 minutes) but I let my local gunshop install the stirker indicator. I figure when it comes to the striker or trigger I want a professional to mess with it.

Prior to installing both the stanless guide/spring and the polished indicator, the SR40 shot really well. Im a beginner and I managed to keep every shot on target from 15 yds mixed in with about 2 dead center hits.

After installation, it shot even better...Smoother recoil, better next on target shots and less overall movement. I really like the trigger, I know there have been a few complaints. I'd like to get suggestions on what the trigger "feel" difference would be if I went to the Ghost Ultimate? I originally wanted the Tactical 5LB Ghost Trigger but it requires modification and Im on the fence of how comfortable I feel even having a professional do this. I like the Ultimate because its a direct drop in replacement trigger. Any thoughts?

I'll post some pics shortly.

Thanks!
Chris

Looks great.

As for the ghost trigger "upgrade" I'd hold off on that until they fix an issue with them. I recently installed one myself and the fitting is no problem if you can grind metal you can do it, but there's a defect in the design that could make your trigger far worse. I've written them about it and I'll be posting after I get their response. I know they make great products for glocks but their SR triggers haven't been fully vetted IMHO - at least not for the compact versions of the SR line.

I've shot a few thousand rounds since I put a Ghost in my SR9 with no issues, but then again thats a 9 so it could be different. Id say atleast 2500 rounds
