Just up graded my mini 14

Finally went to the Aimpoint on my Mini, and got away from my GG&G mount and Fastfire II that was on it previously. Think I am gonna like this setup a little better.

I have to say that is one good looking gun. Used to have one and wish I never got rid of it .I have been thinking my next gun purchase is gonna be the mini 14 tactical.

Thanks, its a great gun, took me a while to figure out what kinda optic I really wanted on it, how I was gonna mount it. I have shot the tactical, little shorter than the standard, and I like the thicker barrel. Also like the Hogue stock on the NRA Mini. Hopefully soon they will come out with the hi-cap mags for the Mini 6.8spc, or I will figure out out a way to modify the 5.56 mag to work with the other platform.

Never would have sold my Mini had I known about this mount. Bought one for my M1A and LOVE it.

Yeah,

I guess I am becoming a purist and wanted to stay as close to original look as possible, which if you have seen my AR collection there isn't anything thats stock about them. I dunno I wanted to mount an EoTech 512, which I like the best between it and the aimpoint Comp3 but the Eotech just looks out of place on some weapons. Works great for the AR platforms shotguns and even my MP5, but not on the mini. There are several guns that just dont look right with optics in my opinion, like the Thompson, Garand, Carbine. Then there are weapons that look right with the aimpoint versus the Eotech like the M1A, M1A scout, Mini 14 etc.

I just hated how high the rail mount made the optics. Ruger rings on a tube will work ok, but Ruger mounts + rail + rings + Optic = WAY TOO TALL!!! My Eo 512 is just a tiny bit too tall still for my M1A but with a one inch cheek riser it is more than acceptable. If you use low rings on your Aimpoint with the Ultimak rail I think it will also show the irons through it. You rail looks like mine where it not only blocks the view of the rear sight but it can't even flip up. With the Ultimak you can use one or the other still. Slap a scout scope on it and you can have a long distance view (up to 4x I think).

Yeah, i think i am gonna try out the 1913 rail from GG&G next on my mini 30. Tried the Factory single front ring 30mm on my the 14 first but it didn't seem stable enough with just one ring, so I changed it to the mount. It actually works pretty well, and its not gonna be used as a defensive gun anyhow the AR's are in front of it in the safe anyhow, and my AR's have Eotechs and BUIS, with flashlights.

I am running the aimpoint comp 3 on my M1A scout in the scout configuration. No use of irons on it either. Lets see your M1A!

Nice addition to your mini-14. I have a regular optical sight on mine.

Nah piggy backed it on my DPMS A-15 I built, its funny but most weapons I own have 2 sets of sights. Guess I need reassurance that If one fails the other will work as a back up.

mounted it on this gun after switching to the Nikon BDC with weaver tactical rings and a 1913 top mount on the ring

Thanks guys, I had mounted a 3x9x40 on it when I first bought it in 99 but after purchasing the EoTechs for my AR's in 06 or 07, I wanted a GOOD holographic or tube red dot sight, military quality, and not mess with the cheaper china made sights out there. It has worked out great for me, and I am in the process of doing the same setup to my Mini 30 Stainless. Only thing about the 30 is I hate the John Mansen flashider on it, so I am going to fabricate or have one fabricated, a stainless M-14 style flashider for it, just like the blued one on my Mini 14. I deserves to look more like its older brother the M-14 which I also own.
