And a non-firearm item - did a few Yeti tumblers last year as gifts.

Finished up the control box and checked out the circuits - looking good. I added the digital temp display that I sourced off Amazon along with a compact 12VDC power supply. Only downside is the readout is only in degrees C so I will either convert or finally get around to learning the way the rest of the world reads temperature. (Will probably make a conversion card for the typical temps I want).

Fired up the lower element only and found it was holding 121 C pretty steady - that's 250 F which is the desired temp for curing most metal pieces. Outside cabinet temp was ambient room temp measured with my IR heat gun. A very small heat loss around the door - 100 F readings. Otherwise the cabinet was cool to the touch with an inside temp of 250 F.

I think I went a little over budget but still the total materials cost was $225 - $250 (not counting the old Stack-On cabinet I already owned). Even if I bought a new cabinet it would build out for under $400 so while not "dirt cheap" still a pretty modest investment for a nice oven that will allow me to easily do long pieces like barrels or longer hand guards, etc.

Not something you need if you just wanted to try a Cerakote project once but as you can tell I kinda enjoy working with it. It'll get it's maiden voyage this weekend - got an AR9 project brewing and a fresh new color to apply to the upper, lower, hand guard and buffer tube.

Took the new oven out for a spin this evening and pleased with the results. After fiddling with the lower element it finally settled into a sweet spot that kept the temp a pretty consistent 240 - 260 F.

Above are some parts for an AR9 project. I've been gathering up parts for a while and finally have everything needed including a new Cerakote color to try - Titanium.

After using Mrs. Waveform's oven this was a real joy. No stooping or bending just open the door and hang up the parts.

And here's the finished project. Once the parts cooled the rifle went together pretty quick. This is a carbine in 9MM that uses Glock mags (33 round mag pictured). The upper is kinda neat - has a side charging handle, no forward assist or dust cover.

Looking forward to giving this a go at the range and seeing if it works. (Always relieved when these hodgepodge of gun parts go bang).

Spousal units appreciate not using the oven in the house.

Cerakote Oven Monologue Update:

Sometimes you need to Kote stuff that doesn't lend itself to hanging from a wire. So I added a couple of aluminum angles to the inside for the oven to make a removable shelf.

One of Mrs. Waveform's old baking sheets fit nicely once I trimmed off the the little ears on both ends. (Please do not tell Mrs. Waveform. I have a couple of months to replace it before Christmas cookie baking begins.)

To try it out I Koted my Yeti Rambler (favorite coffee cup) with some Graphite Black I had on hand.

May what to install a small fan, as the temp at top is going to be different than the bottom.
