I'm a new member so here goes.
Got my 581 series Stainless Mini 14 a couple of months ago. Am sure this has been discussed before, but wanna put a muzzle brake on it. Talked to a nearby gunsmith, he wanted to thread the barrel and put on an AR type brake. I really don't want to thread the barrel and I want to keep the iron front sight. Is there a mfg out there that makes one. Also I really don't like the way the rear sight adjusts. Any other options for the rear sight?
There are options out there. For your rear sight, There is a company called Tech-Sights that make a real nice rear sight for the Mini. Tech-SIGHTS Precision Shooting Accessories
As for muzzle breaks/ flash hiders. You have the Mo-Reaper that is a complete slip on break and front sight. MO-ROD
I would check those out and go from there. The Mo-Reaper is a nice product and Kelly is a great dude (the designer). I have a version of the Mo-Reaper and its fit a finish is top notch and installation couldn't of be easier.

About the MoRod and the TrueShot products, they definitely LOOK good, but do they really work? I've been taught that muzzle breaks/compensators can sometimes have a negative effect on accuracy unless they are absolutely perfectly designed and tested. Do you have any experience with them? Can anyone on the forum vouch for them as a product?
About the link to Brownell's you posted, it looks like those flash hiders are for a 10/22. Do you mean to imply that those will also work on a Mini 580 series? It looks like the shorter one might have the roll pin hole in the right place for it to work with a Mini 580 series, but I don't know. What do you think?
Many people who have the Mo-Reaper installed, also are using scopes, with no conflict between the two.
Glad Kelly posted a pic of the Sightless Mo-Reaper. I got one last month, and wasn't sure if it had been released yet. Its a nice setup as you can see on my 185 Series Mini. Easy to install, looks really good and I'm sure, will perform nicely.
With the ammo shortage, I haven't got the spare ammo to go shooting to test.
I can see the top of the hood in the very bottom of the scope. It is like a little blur, but it does not bother me. I sometimes take the scope off to shoot so i am happy. If i had a second scoped Mini i think i would go hoodless. To me the black on stainless looks good, I got the silver for my SS mini and the black i think looks better.
And like in Jack's instance, if your experienced the same, you can go with the next highest ring Ruger makes. I belive its low, med, high and extra high for ring heights.
The black does contrast nicely with the stainless Jack. I really like the looks of it on my stainless. Especially with the matte black stock I have.
The mini's are so fun to shoot. Even with the ammo shortage i still shoot mine. I think the mo reaper drops the recoil 20-30% i can fire and never loose the target in the scope.
Thanks for the kudos, guys. We have a two-man operation at Mo-Rod.com, and we are both avid Mini-14/Mini-30 shooters. Demand for the Mo-Reapers is incredibly high right now, but keep trying if you should find us out of stock. The shop is cranking away daily!
I got a choate flash hider in my basement. I ended up threading mine but bought the choate before. You can have it if you want just pay the shipping. PM me if you want it. I'm not gonna use it
Just checked out the link above for the ASI site. Jeez, $399 for a factory trigger group ? I bought my whole rifle (SS 195 series) a few months ago from a co-worker for $400. And $79.95 for a factory 20 round magazine ? Why would anyone pay that when they can just order the mags from Ruger for half that ? I'm thinking maybe Accuracy Systems and Cheaper than Dirt are affiliated.
I got it off of Ebay. Seller was ray_surplus. I had the barrel threaded by a gunsmith. He also moved the Iron sights back cause I wanted to keep the Irons. Sorry it took so long to reply. Yea its tight has a crush washer between it and the barrel.
