New Remington R51 in 9mm

Awhile back we had a wish list thread about guns we'd like to see Ruger make. I suggested a SA single stack 9mm pistol. A few others did too.
Ruger didn't make one, but Remington is. The firearms blogs are talking about a new Remington R51, in 9mm. It's the gun Ruger should have made. It's not on Remington's sight yet, but you can look around and see it on alot of other sites. It's supposed to be under $400. I think it'll be a winner.

I'm happy to see Remington in the pistol market. I expect to get the R1 Stainless eventually. Now, maybe this!

Looks like it shoots great, no muzzle flip.

Good looking gun. Macarthur carried a Remington as his general officer's gun instead of the colt.

The original 51 is very slim. The R51 looks 1911 thick. If it's thin, I'm in.

It is 0.96 inches thick. A 1911 is about 1.27 inches thick.

I was thinking the same thing. It look slim in the pics, and beyond that, I've never heard anyone refer to a 1911 as thick!

To me its weird seeing Remington on the side of a pistol . . . Hard to get over that.

I have to say it is a very unique looking handgun . . . But I will have to hold one before I can judge it any further.

It looks like a reasonably made, effective, concealed carry pistol. I enjoyed watching the Gunblast.com review.

However, compared to this:

It IS definitely Cinderella's older, uglier sister......

But Glocks aren't pretty either, and they sure get-r-done!!

Remington may have a winner here. An all metal single stack not lawyered up with extra safeties, a 1911 style trigger with a light pull, what's not to like?

I do like the Buck Rogers/art deco vibe. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the style of the R51 but it's nice to see a new design that isn't the same blocky no aesthetics ala Glock, S&W Shield Springfield, Berretta Nano/Pico, Sig 290 etc.

It appears to be quite a departure from many of the current single-stack pistols. The Pederson locking breech block, metal instead of polymer frame, the single spring over a stationary barrel and extremely low bore axis and extremely smooth surfaces. It is very interesting and I'd like to see one, but I'd have to shoot it before I bought one.
