I've been e-mailing Mr Fifer asking for an improved trigger on the LC9 as they did on the LCP. Then comes the LC9S rumors, but it wasn't announced at SHOT.
May have to take a hard look at this one. Seems to check all the boxes!
Not IMO. This is a breath of fresh air. To me, Ruger doesn' anything covered in the semi auto world except for the MK series pistols. Everything else, not so much. This is something completely different than everything else offered with lots of good things ink it's favor like an alloy frame instead of the plastic like everyone else. No thumb safety, another big plus. Time will tell if it is gonna cut the mustard or not. As of right now though, I'm excited to see something different hit the market than another small plastic single stack.
John Pedersen designed the r51 in 1917 and Remington sold it up until the start of the depression in 1927, selling 65000. Theres nothing new about it, lol. It has some nice features but they they quit making it 86 years ago for a reason. If it came out ten years ago I'd say it would've been a big deal but now its just another me too.
IIRC, the M53 wasn't part of the 1906 trials (not having been designed until 1916-17). In 1917 the Navy/Marine Corps did an independent test, found it better than the Colt and ordered 75,000. However, the war ended before manufacture commenced and the contract was cancelled.
The Navy found the M53 to be lighter, have fewer parts and less recoil than the 1911.
If the R51 meets expectations, could an R53 be a possibility? Only Remington knows, and they aren't talking.
Your right, it was Savage and Luger against the Colt. Remington still made 65000 of them and maybe will do better as a 9mm. I just think its ten years to late the market is flush with 9mm's. Now if Ruger was making this gun then I'd be its biggest cheerleader I mean this is a Ruger site.
What's the quality like on the R1? Beauty is as beauty does, lets do a little shooting with it! Remington has been building handguns, on and off, for over 150 years. Still got my attention. They've got to do something at Remington to save their business, or go the way of Winchester and a few dozen other arms manufacturers. Probably never see one in the Peoples Republic.
