Ruger SR40c vs S&W M&P Shield

Looking for new carry gun and want to stick with .40S&W caliber since I have already stockpiled it. I'm a Ruger brand loyal kind of guy, but the Shield at least on paper seems to have a lot of features I'm looking for. On paper alone, I'm leaning toward the Shield.

Any input before my test fires commence? Right now my heart is saying SR40c and my head is saying the Shield.

I own the Shield, one of the best shooting compact pistols I have ever held in my hand. Flawless 100% so far. Only thing I did to it was add a set of Talon Grips, it's needs that.
If I were to gripe, the only gripe I have is the yellow hard to get to push down lever you use to take down the gun. You can reach down inside with your finger and do it but it's not easy, a pencil, screwdriver or any little tool makes it easier.
If I take my time and try hard, I can "walk" a soup can from -25yards to 50yards emptying the magazine and never miss a shot....that's dang good for me.
Very solid pistol, I like it so much I'm saving for another just like it, if that tells ya anything....

I have the Shield .40 It's a great pistol. It has ran flawless for me and is my primary every day carry. I also have the new LC380 which is my new favorite range gun, and the newly tweaked LCP which I carry very often as well. Although I'm a big fan of Ruger products (SR556, Mini 14, LC380, LCP) when it comes to the .40 cal choice of carry, the M&P Shield gets the nod from me. The feature set is exactly what I wanted, it is extremely thin for carry, and like I said it has been flawless performance wise. The SR40c is also a great contender. It just comes down to feature set. My advise it to go with the best pistol for your application. I've done that every time without brand bias, and a majority of my firearms are still Rugers. But that doesn't mean that every firearm I own needs to be.

For some reason i am more drawn to the M&P 40 Compact rather than it's Shield cousin. Though slightly bigger then the Shield, it holds 10+1 (My Ruger SR40c holds 9+1 but the Spare magazine holds 15 rounds) The shield does have the Lowest MSRP of these three. I would guess it would come down to Price, and conceal ability. One question, How many magazines come with the shield? I would hope at least two !

Comparing a SR40C to a Shield is an apples to oranges comparison IMO. A M&P compact would be a better comparison.

I am a fan of Ruger guns, but I am also a fan of S&W. Id take Smith over Ruger.

I have a Shield in 9MM, if I were to say anything bad it would be that it came with a 7 round & and 8 round magazine and the 7 round is just to short for my liking,my little finger is unsupported. I have acquired 2 mro 8 round mags and so now I have nothing bad to say about the Shield. I do not own a Shield in 40...

I have the SR40c and like the Shield. The Shield is a little tougher for me to shoot and doesn't quite fit my hand as naturally as the SR40c. But that's a personal decision and shouldn't affect your choice.

Shoot both. Buy what you will use.

Dad carries a Shield 9, it is a tremendous gun. Although I'm brand loyal to Ruger, I'd say go with the shield on this one....then the SR40c a bit later

I have owned many subcompacts over the years - the Shield is hands down, my favorite subcompact. Fantastic gun!
