If it is a to be a "garage gun" concealablity wouldn't be much of a factor, so an LCR is not the best choice. I'd go with a used .357/.38spl SA/DA revolver with a 4" barrel for that purpose. It need not be pretty for the garage, and it would hold up better to the colder environment over time. Make sure you get some kind of mini vault for it or something.

LCR in .38 is an awesome home or carry weapon. Great trigger and a joy to shoot.

my vote would be for the lcr in 357(klcr), gives you some option, and the extra few ounces help with recoil if your only going to use 38's

Too many options. I would love a SP101 or GP100. I also have been looking closely at the LCR in both 38 and 357. I pick up the LCR-22 today, so I've got some saving to do before I buy anything.

I think you'll enjoy the LCR-22. I really like mine. The short barrel and sights are a challenge, but it's pretty accurate for a snubbie.

$500 is my price target. Cheaper is better but I'm happy to pay a bit more for a gun that will last a lifetime.
Nothing better than a good o' .357 Blackhawk. Since conceal ability isn't a factor, get the 6 1/2" barrel. Have lots of fun target practicing with it with .38s, move up to .357 when you want. Last you forever (I've had mine since I was a teenager ... now I am 48). A 5 1/2 or 6 1/2" Single-Six would be great in .22 . Just went through around 400 rounds this weekend. Again last you life time of fun shooting either short range or long range.
