While I prefer getting the nice plastic boxes I wouldn't get too hung up over it. The Ruger handguns I have mostly came in either a black or gray plastic box except the SR1911 came in a white cardboard box. That kinda surprised me since it's harder to come by and the MSRP is higher than other Ruger pistols. LCR - cardboard, other revolvers plastic; M77 rifle, Red Label - all cardboard box. Doesn't matter too much to me since I use other things to carry all of them. Only exception is S&W X frame revolver - too big for anything but the big blue briefcase it came in.

It really doesn't make a difference to me. The gun is never stored in a box. Seems like they came in boxes years ago and nobody cared back then.

+1 before the days of plastic, ALL old handguns came in cardboard boxes, including Rugers.

I have seen some "vintage" yellow and black Ruger boxes go for over $100 on Fleabay, along with old S&W boxes from the 30's-50's.

My Dad bought a few S&W revolvers brand new back in 1989, a 586-2 and a 66-3 and both came in the blue cardboard boxes. Didn't seem to bother anyone then

Gun makers realize 99% of gun buyers throw the boxes away anyway......

I try to keep my boxes when I buy things, as it seems to increase resale value it you have original box and original packaging.

I'm not sure it increases the value but what it does do is increase the chances of being able to sell a used gun. A lot of people are anal about having everything associated with a used gun when they buy it & i'm one of those idiots .
