Ruger SR22 vs. S&W M&P22

I'm plan to buy a .22 automatic within the next week or so. I've pretty much ruled out the Sig Mosquito and the Walther P22. The SR22 just seems a little better than they are, so I thought I had settled on my choice. Now I see that Smith and Wesson has a .22 version of the M&P. So far the reviews I have seen are very positive. Anyone out there have the M&P 22? How does it compare to the SR22?

I am thinking the same thing.
from what I read and watched on utube the M&P looks pretty nice.
I am going to order one tomorrow.
I'll let you know how it is.

I have both the SR22p and the M&P22. They are both nice guns and fun to shoot, but if I could only keep one, it would be the M&P22. It is larger, feels good in my hand and I shoot better with it. I have the M&P40 Pro, so the 22 version is a natural because it feels just like it's larger caliber cousin.
I am not super crazy about the sights on the M&P, but they will do. If I was younger and had my 20/10 eyesight back, the sights would be a non-issue.

I looked at the M&P22 and M&P9 when I was looking to aquire my first handguns a few months ago; I wanted to buy a 9mm & 22LR that were simular enough that I could do the majority of my practice with the 22LR to save on ammo costs. Ultimately 3 things swayed me to the SR22 & SR9c over the M&P's:

1- l liked the way the SR's felt in my hands over the M&P's
2 - I shot the SR9c signfiacntly better than the M&P9
3 - The M&P22 was about $200 more than my SR22 and the M&P9 was $200 more than my SR9c; that's $400 in extra ammo &/or accesories!

The only thing I don't like about the SR22 is the Safety is opposite ("safe" verses "armed" positions) of the SR9c so it's not an ideal sitution for training purposes...

I like the SR22 better cause it costs less, smaller and lighter, I like the sights better, interchangeable grips, both good guns it's just personal perfrence can't go wrong buying either one.

I own an SR22 and have nothing but positive things to say about it and could just as easily have selected the M&P 22 instead.

I picked up my new M&P 22, I also picked up 2 extra 12 mags cost me 425 total .
a pretty decent deal I feel.
I put about 700 rounds down range, Federal bulk, & Remington bulk, the only problem I had was 1 non fire.
A guy I was at the range with ran 3 mags and he had 2 FTF both came on first round from full mags, he does not use slide release he racks the slide, not sure why there would be a difference.
Also at the end I ran 200 CCI mini mags still no problems but did shoot a tighter group.
Over all I think this feels good in my big paw and it is a lot of fun to shoot.
But not as accurate as my Ruger Mark I.

He probably read about the slide 'stop' should not he used as a 'slide release' because it causes premature wear. In all three of my Ruger manuals it refers to the 'stop' or 'slide hold open' to be released by pulling back on the slide. Slingshoting the slide.

I've shot both the SR22 and M&P22 as my brothers own them. I'd say hands down and without a hesitation I'd always choose the M&P. IMO, I like that its a full size gun, feels more rugged and hasn't had any major issues like the SR 22, as reported here within the forum. I can't stand the upsidedown safety on the SR22 either. My only gripe about the M&P is that it mes with one 12 rd mag and that it's more expensive but worth it. Let us know which one you end up with and how she shoots for you. Good luck.
