Ruger SR9 vs Glock 17

I am not trying to stir the pot or cause any kind of trouble. I am basing the my information of my experience...your mileage may vary

I had to do it. I have been shooting Glocks for at least 18 years and wanted to compare my older Glock 17 with my SR9. I shot a variety of ammo: WWB 115gr, Federal AE 115, Remington 124gr, & Federal 124gr +P HST. Both were 100% reliable but the Glock didn't like the American eagle ammo. Ejection was all over the place, but it still cycled.
Accuracy was a different story, (in my hands at least). It was almost embarrassing. Though I have shot the Glock for years I was more accurate with the SR9 (this was my first time firing it.) Bottom line; for $399 you have a top notch service pistol. This target was 17 rounds at 15 yards:

That's why I bought one. All the research I did said it was every bit as reliable and accurate as Glock. Throw in less expensive and American made, and you can't lose with an SR9!

I have been saying for years that Glock is overrated. Despite their claims, and the near fanaticism of some of their owners, they are NOT the "be-all end-all" handgun.

At the very least, the SR9 has the advantage in price, and the fact you are not shipping your hard earned dollars overseas (assuming your a U.S. Citizen of course)
Buying the SR9 also comes with the added bonus that you do not have to give financial support to a company (Glock) that feels so threatened by a square cap gun that they feel the need to sue to protect their "assumed monopoly" of the handgun market.

tipping point

Yesterday I had a glock 17 in hand and an SR9c(compact instead of full because of the option to use the 17 round mags, possible ccw, and at the costs of 0.5in barrel length.) It seems that with a 2+ year membership to GSSF you can get a glock per year at a significant discount, but even with the prices being close something else won the day for me...the SR9's trigger. Smooth, clean break, and a break sooner than expected.

The safety, use it, don't use it, but at least it is an option.

The stainless slide is nice...and overall the SR9 is non-ugly.

More and more I am really liking the Ruger company. I am actually thinking of selling my Glock to fund a SR9c to go along with the SR9.

My friend has a Glock 17 and I have a SR40 we trade sometimes at the range . She really likes shooting my 40 but She has had some stippling done on her grip and to me it pinches my thumb web. Last time I shot it I had a blister after 4 or 5 mags. I can hit ok with it but I like my Ruger better ..

I have an extensive backgroung with Glock pistol's but after owning and shooting the Ruger LCP and LC9 with positive result's I purchased an SR9 yesterday. Out of the box it had the best trigger pull as well as fit and finish of any stock Glock or M&P I've handled. The strong side safety didn't bother me because of past 1911 training and duty carry experence. At this point I am pleased enough with the SR9 to say that I forsee an SR9c in a few week's.

Same thing with me. I also had an extensive Glock background before I bought this SR9. I definitely see more SR's in my future!!! (and less Glocks )

I love the weight balance on the SR9. My roommate's G17 is amazingly accurate for me though.
