I think some people are going to be let down by the Charter 9mm Para revolver........I do not think it will hold up as the cheap range shooter that many are hoping it will be.

If its able to use moon clips should be good for sure. If the Charters can handle 44special & 357 why not 9mm. brigonds post has me wanting to check one out in 9mm.

Id like to get my hands on one to see what I think. I have a soft spot for American companies that can put out a quality product at a budget price.

I've noticed that Charter Arms (as well as some other manufacturers) seem to think they need to make a lot of different colored guns. Can't imagine me buying a purple or black or blue or polka dot gun but I guess there's some sort of a market out there.

Those may be aimed (pun) at the female shooting population?

That's what I assumed when I only saw pink ones but now they come in all flavors. Could still be mainly for females though.

I also got a response from charter. 4 to 12 week back order. customer service suggested that I contact a dealer to place an order. It seems that we won't b.e seeing them in showrooms for a while. I'm gonna call around to a few lgd to see if they are taking orders. I have decided that I wi ll be purchasing one. my only concern is not the quality or reliability . it's wether 22 ounces will be too hefty to carry. on the plus side 9 millimeter ammo and the weight should make recoil a non issue.

Im not sure if its popularity or slow production. I can see it as being high demand. Heck, I want one. This is what the company is saying. Ill try finding out more from a lgs if they are able to place an order.

To expand on my previous post, the Charter revolvers are good, solid self defense weapons but they won't hold up to 10's of thousands of rounds....lots of "gun people" like Massad Ayoob recommend the Charters as carry guns and BUG's but acknowledge the fact that they are "carry lots, shoot little" guns.

I don't have my Charter (yet) so I can't personally comment on them. I handled the 5" Police Bulldog at a gun show and quality seemed to be above Taurus "level". In the 70's and 80's the .44 Special Bulldog was one of the top selling handguns in the US despite a published "lifespan" of roughly 500-700 rounds before it needed to be sent back for service. Most people don't put nearly that many through the .44 Bulldogs anyway, they are self defense guns not shooters.

I don't need the Charter .38 Bulldog I put on layaway, but it's the only currently produced modern US made revolver missing from my collection, so I had to get one I doubt I'll shoot it much but it will fill a niche for me, I like the small grip frame and with a set of factory woods it will make a nice knockaround winter carry gun - glove box gun.

Charter has a lifetime warranty, so if you want the new 9mm revolver as a shooter, I say have at it and if it wears out, Charter will fix or replace it.

Charter also makes a copy of the NAA "Mini" revolver, the "Dixie Derringer". This Charter Arms "clone" of the NAA Mini is the same price as the NAA, and doesn't look to be of the same quality, so I don't see the point.

I dont think 9mm or 38 is going to be bad. My 44 Bulldog has twice that many rounds through it and it has'nt shot loose yet.

Charter Arms are decent guns. OTOH the only reason I own one is for the .44spl Bulldog. Any other caliber I'll go with a different mfg.
