| Advise/ Opinions NEEDED!
Hi all!,
I know this is a Ruger forum, and I am a happy SR9 owner, but I have a dilemma on my hands...
I have a very strong interest in a Beretta 92/M9. I own an SR9, and a Smith & Wesson M&P 9c. My wife owns a Beretta PX4 Storm Compact 9mm. I do not have the want or need for an additional 9mm pistol. Granted I live in Illinois, so the prospect of concealed carry is very far off (if ever) but in the event, I have my M&P9c to fit that slot. So for a full size 9mm is purely for range use. My home defense set-up is a Mossberg 500 12ga w/ my Remington R1 1911 .45 as backup.
So here lies my dilemma...
I am considering trading my SR9 in for the Beretta. (I know, I know) but I am on the fence.
My first experience shooting a handgun was w/ a rented Beretta, and I do remember it being very fun to shoot, but I do plan to go to the range next week and rent one again and shoot it side-by-side w/ my SR9 just to be sure.
But, I would like the advise/ Opinions of the many great and informative people of this forum to help me figure things out. Obviously a side-by-side shooting will make my final determination, but opinions are always welcome.
Thanks!!
-Greg.

I see your dilemma, they are both fine handguns.
Me being me would own both, so I'm not going to be any help.
Sorry.

I know this is a very unpopular opinion here but I did just that. I sold my SR9 and purchased a 92a1. The 92A1 is shockingly accurate but heavy as hell. I like my SR9 but I just didn't love it. If it will serve as a range gun, I say do it. It will shoot better than you ever will. Hope that helps.

I'm biased cause I had nothing but trouble with my SR9 (maybe it was built at 4:00PM on Friday) and I finally traded it off for a SP101.
So, I'd get the Beretta - just my opinion.

If you didn't have the sr9, which of the two would you buy today? Let that be your guide.

My opinion is to do exactly as you said and fire the Baretta and the SR9 at the same range session. I agree that the 92 FS and M9 variant are fine firearms and the Baretta was a finalist on my list when I was searching for my 9mm handgun. We all have our opinions, but, in the long run, the way the gun fits you personally and the cost you are willing/able to spend should be your decision points. I don't own an SR9 but one of my range buddies does and I have fired both of the guns you are comparing. I do like them both but the choice should be based on personal preferences. Enjoy shooting the two and good luck on your decision.

I have the SR9 for almost a year now and I'm thinking about another 9mm pistol. After renting and shooting the Beretta 92 FS, I made up my mind. Its my next 9mm pistol. It shoots great and I really like the fit and finish. Ill be keeping the SR9 too. Its a fine pistol and my first love. I say keep both if your budget allows it. Good luck.

Heck yes, get the Beretta
Not sure what the rules are in Illinois, but you will get more for your Ruger if you sell it yourself than on a trade in at the gun store. You will be LUCKY to get 40% of the used value on a trade in... |

If your not going to be carrying it, I say go for the Beretta. They are a better range/ plinking pistol to me. A Beretta 96 (.40) is what I keep by my bed.

Keep your SR9 and save up for a Beretta they are both great guns and fun to shoot.
Usually you end up regreting tradeing off a gun and wishing you had kept it

I only regret selling one. Most guns... You can still go out and buy another, if ya miss it too much. There is only 1 particular 1911 I miss... It was a model made in the 1990s by Springfield that is no longer sold. Otherwise, I don't miss a one...

Well, I just got back from the range, and shot both guns side by side, and I must admit that I really enjoyed the Beretta.
So, I looked at there inventory, and they had a Beretta 92FS/A1 for a good price.
The range/ gun store that I frequent gave me a fair trade price on the SR9, so I pulled the trigger so to speak. in 72 hours, I will pick up my brand new Beretta 92A1.
Thank you all for your very helpful advise and opinions, it has been greatly appreciated.

I've got to go Beretta on this one, unless you've got small hands.
Edit: nevermind, I see you made up your mind while I was reading other people's posts. Congrats!
I'll warn you though... Beretta's can be addicting. The reason I mentioned small hands is because I've got small hands and the regular arched Beretta mainspring housing / backstrap can be a little much for me. I prefer the 1911 style grip angle of their "Vertec" frame, for example my Elite IA.

That sucks that you live somewhere where you must wait 72 hours.
With my CHL in TX, I needn't do a background check. I can literally walk in and leave with a gun in 5-10 minutes.
