Go check some prices on various web sights; gunbroker, gunsamerica, Bud's Discount Guns for Sale - Buds Gun Shop. That will give you a decent idea of the going prices.
There will be some differences. You may find you're paying more at your LGS, but you may decide that the convenience of immediate ownership and supporting a local business is worth that extra. If your LGS is close to what's on the web then you're doing OK.

i do not like the feel of the cougar pistol so I would get te Ruger but you may like the feel of the cougar. In the end both are good pistols but i like the Ruger's feel much better and I also have a bunch of ruger mags from a ruger carbine in 9 mm.

I would go with the Ruger. Hands down. It's a little tank that will never let you down, and it'll eat whatever you feed it. My P95 is my edc.

Being a die-hard Beretta fan, I would take the Cougar and then being a Ruger fan, I would go back and get the P95.

I bought my Cougar a little over a year ago and absolutely love it. It as been flawless with different ammo types and is very easy to take down and clean. It is an all metal gun compared to the P95 so it might be heavier for concealed carry. If a rail is important for you then the P95 would be the choice - only the 45 ACP Cougar has a rail. I would find a place to try both if possible and select the one that works best for you.

| Both are great pistols, but having owned and shot both I have to side with the Cougar! I ditched my P95 to buy another Cougar. That's a great price on that Cougar, by the way. They go for that much used & $400 + tax & BGC around here for a new one. Good luck. |

I have had 6 or more Rugers of various lengths over the years and they're a fine, high value gun(s).
However, right now I have Stoeger Cougar .40 that is my most common carry. I love the design, comfort, stripping, etc. After over a year of holster usage the high points still have their black finish. I have maybe 800 rounds through it. Works 100%. More than I can say for some of my other pistols.
Neither the Ruger or Cougar are 'bad' or anything close to it. Buy what feels best to you and who's sights you like best. I would also say to check out the aftermarket stuff (need a holster?) too. I've passed up more than one gun because the aftermarket wasn't strong enough.

I have a 9mm Stoeger Cougar and love it! I like how it feels in my hand and it feels super solid. It is my house gun because I feel that I can depend on it totally to function flawlessly because it is so reliable. The only thing I have noticed negative about the pistol is it does shoot low for me.

Get whatever fits your hand better, thats a big part of handgun shooting and they both seem to be decent quality guns so thats not the issue here
Or just spend 80 more and get an SR9, mines been great, zero problems, handles better than my friends Beretta 92fs big time
