Thats seems like a good deal to me even though it is not cheap... Just not sure the package is worth 2 grand......

Take a look at "guncrafter industries 1911 .50 GI". I took a look at one of these several years ago in the Ozarks. Very cool gun. 50 cal on a 1911 platform. I believe that they are made in Arkansas.

If you're looking for a larger caliber semi-automatic, take a look at the Gun rafter Industries .50 GI. It's a 1911 with a lot more punch, and a VERY NICE custom pistol to boot. Guncrafter Industries

50GI 240 LSWC 750 12.88 45ACP level
50GI* 300 FP 720 15.45 41 Mag level
50GI* 275 JHP 890 17.51 41 Mag level
50GI 300 JHP 860 18.43 44 Mag level

these are from guncrafts website.....

185 gr (12 g) JHP, 1200 ft/s, 591 ft-lb
275 gr (18 g) JHP, 900 ft/s, 495 ft-lb
300 gr (19 g) JFP, 700 ft/s, 350 ft-lb
300 gr (19 g) JHP, 860 ft/s, 493 ft-lb

this is from another website

this is 50AE
50AE XTP JHP 300 1450 ft-lb 1475 ft/s
50AE JSP 350 1253 ft-lb 1270 ft/s
50AE JHP 300 1531 ft-lb 1516 ft/s

pretty massive difference....

45 ACP varies from 400 to almost 600 ft-lb...

the 1911 is also 3000 dollars, twice as much as the DE, I have two 1911's (the Ruger SR and a Kimber) and i love them but not for 3000 and the 50gi does not seem to perform that well unless i am missing something, which is certainly possible.

Get a 45 Win Mag or a 475 Wildey magnum!

The Wildey

And here is an article on it:

A little late but...

I own the 50ae and have so for 3 or 4 years. In my experience its recoil is less than my sw model 29-3 with the 8&3/8's barrel and 240 gr factory xtp's. I reload the the speer gold dot 300 grain gdhp with h110 powder@ 1500 fps and it delivers twice the kinetic energy on target as the 44 magnum. It has less muzzle flip than my 44 magnum and I have shot the eagle one handed on occassion. I fired the 500 smith with the 8&3/8's barrel and after 10 rounds the palm of my hand hurt so bad I had to put it down. I have also fired the 454, 460 and 480 wheel guns. The eagle never did this to me after normal 50 to 100 round shooting sessions. My 135 pound ole lady has shot my eagle as well and enjoys it. I have friends that are scared of it. In fact normal accuracy for me is 7 rds on a silhouette target, all head shots off hand at 25 yards.( I shoot once a week) In my opinion it shoots as accurate as my kimber 1911 SIS custom RL. As for jamming, never had that problem in over 1000 rounds but maybe 2 or 3 times. Normally caused by not pushing the ammo all the way back in the magazine. If you want the biggest semi auto pistol commercially sold the eagle is it! I also posted a thread about this in gun gallery titled 50ae high speed in action.

If you want one and have the cash, get one, seems like a fun gun, supposed to put out more energy then the .44mags. When it comes to jamming, I think that has more to do with the .357 or .44s. I saw a website a while ago going through all the different brand of .357s and you have to find ammo hot enough to cycle the gun. Get one of those balling gold tiger striped ones. haha

Alot of jamming issues associated with the eagle is from operator error, or limp wristing, from alot of cases I have seen. It depends alot on a firm purchase of the gun. I have also seen and read about people that have had the cases ejected hitting them in the face, which is also attriubted to improper purchase on the gun. As for price to shoot you guys can have the 500sw with its ammo being $70+ for 20 rounds of ammo versus $40 for the 50ae in speer gdhp factory 20rd boxes. I reloaded 400 rds for $300 and at my local gunshop (1) box of 20 factory speer 300gr gdhp's run $49. So If I bought 400 rds it would be close to $1K. Its only logical to reload, practice then get good with it.

DE's are cool (used to have one) but it did live in a safe. I now have a Desert Eagle 1911 which is a lot more fun, and a lot cheaper to shoot!

My Dad has an AMT Automag V .50 AE. He loves it, but it's more of a toy than anything. It's not very reliable and it's already broken once.

Rounds are expensive but recoil isn't all that bad, with the heavy slide and spring soaking up a lot of it.
