19-6 357mag 4" blued Smith

I saw a 19-6 357mag 4" blued S&W revolver at he range today on consignment for $499. The blue was fair being worn but not all scratched, rusted or pitted. The cylinder locks up tighter than either of my GPs. The forcing cone looked good with naked eye but will look at it more closely if I decide to buy it. I know it should be fed 38 specials primarily if not exclusively at this stage of it's life. According to the guy at the range it was a "1990 something." If it's good condition mechanically and fair to good cosmetically is it a decent price?

The 19-6 in blue was cataloged in 1992 so that would match what you were told regarding "1990 something". The 19-6 falls outside the pinned & recessed era but before the introduction of MIM parts and the internal lock so it has some appeal but lacks the P&R premium. Based on your description it could be a decent buy, especially if you can negotiate a bit. Offer $400 and see if you can get it for $450. I've paid less for a 4" 19-3 but you have to be looking pretty hard to find one that low anymore.

If you plan to shoot noting but 38 Specials the Model 15 is a great buy. I've picked up 15-2 and 15-3 guns in great shape in the $300 to $350 range. Great shooting K frames and fairly easy to come by. The Model 15 (and 14) get overlooked these days simply because they're not chambered in .357. Yet the Model 19 owners often shoot nothing but 38 Specials to baby the 19 so if 38 Special is your plan maybe a Model 15 is the better option to begin with. Just food for thought.

Get it I love my Model 66 no dash 70's vintage. S&W K frame's are nice guns, I also have a Ruger GP100 WCII to go with my Smith. Get it before it's gone or you will regret it!!!
