Easy choice for me. 1911E. I have one and it's a terrific 1911. I'm not a fan of the 686.

I have a 686-0 with the 8-3/8'' barrel. It so accurate it makes me look like a seasoned shooter at the range. I can't comment on the newer models, but back in the day Smith and Wesson was putting out a fine product.

I would probably go with the .357 wheelie, since it would jell nicely with my Browning M92 .357 lever-gun. I prefer the 10mm, chambered on a 1911 platform.

The thing I like about the S&W 1911 is that it is very well optioned for its price. I think only Sig has front checkering and night sights at that price point, and I'm a big fan of front checkering on a 1911.

Both really nice guns. However, I don't like lasers and im not really fond of slabside barrels, so neither gun really tickles my fancy. I'd prefer the base model of either, been wanting a 686 for a while.

The 686, which I've had for the last 37 years..........as far as 1911's go, there's only one, the Colt Gold Cup..............I've got that too.

686

If you took all the 1911 45 ACPs ever made and ranked them.

Then you took all the 357 revolvers ever made and ranked them.

As a percentage against the whole I see no way that the 686 wouldn't be much higher on it's list vs. the 1911 on it's list.
