H&K P2000 DAO 9mm
A little more than a year ago, my wife picked-up an H&K P2000SK (subcompact version) DAO 9mm pistol with the LEM trigger. It's a fantastic shooter!
I have a unique opportunity to pick-up a (slightly used) H&K P2000 (compact) DAO 9mm pistol with the LEM trigger...basically, it's the SK's larger version.
I like it because it would allow the wife and I to carry the same caliber and magazine when we're 'out-n-about' together...which the 9mm caliber fits her comfort level with a pistol. She loves her P2000SK, is comfortable with the DAO LEM trigger...and this would allow me to carry a pistol with the same trigger such that if a situation ever occurred in which she would need to pick up the pistol I'm carrying and use it in a home/personal defense situation, she would feel comfortable doing so.
I'm comfortable with the DAO trigger (both my P-93 and P-97 are DAO pistols...and I grew up with revolvers) so the DAO factor is not an issue.
My question is...as a '.45-guy' (one who's carried 9mm a few times, but prefers the larger 'mass' of the .45 acp caliber) what would be a good home/personal defensive round to carry in the 3.66" barrel? I prefer a heavier bullet...but am finding that there's a trade-off in velocity and available kinetic energy disbursement when compared to the lighter 115 and 124 grain 9mm JHP bullets.
I've carried +P+ in the Gen 2 Glock 19 (which I purchased for the wife but she preferred the H&K when she found it so it's in my stable) and I liked that...but does anyone have a 9mm round that they prefer in their shorter-barreled 9mm pistol?
Recommendations please...and if you've used a 9mm bullet on some sort of wild animal (hunting or personal defense in lieu of being bitten, of course) what were the effects of that round and, possibly, how effective was it compared to a larger or heavier round?
