Buffalo Bore seems to be about the hottest stuff around if you don't handload. Was looking into their 357magnum outdoorsman but I've read reports of even lighter 357magnum recoiling pretty hard in the SP. I wouldn't shoot the 357 Outdoorsman out of anything less than a GP so that's why I'm looking into carrying their 38special+p Outdoorsman when I'm out hiking or camping.
I figure that 158 grains of a 357 diamater projectile moving at 1,112fps out of a 3" barrel is about the best you can get without going to 357magnum. I would feel pretty good about carrying that out in the woods where the biggest threat is a black bear.
