Rock Island Armory M-200 - Trunk Gun

Wondering if anyone here has the RIA M-200 and if so, what you think of it.

I saw on this forum that Jlandis003 had gotten one quite some time ago but I did not see the range report on it.

Anyway, I'm kind of thinking of (maybe) getting one -even used - as a trunk gun. Something I won't worry about getting scratched or beat up but will always fire a round when the trigger is pulled.

For $200-$250 I don't expect top notch fit and finish and I'm aware there will be some machine marks and rough edges. Like I said, trunk gun.

So ....any feedback on that specific revolver is appreciated.

I've never handled one, but reviews seem positive for the most part. I've looked at them for the same purpose as you suggested. A truck gun.
Right now I have a Heritage 22 in one compartment of my truck. Those guns are inexpensive, but are actually pretty nice shooters for what they are.
I'd like to keep a 38 or 357 in my other floor compartment. These might be a good fit.

Well now ya made me look ... and that M200 looks like it'd work fine as a truck gun.
It's gonna go boom, has a lifetime warranty and the dang thing's even Parkerized.
The interweb feedback looks generally positive overall - I'd say go for it.
For a couple hundred samolians, how can you go wrong?

If its as good as their 1911s it would be a fine gun. I have a couple of their 1911s and they've been great pistols.

LOL I was just browsing Buds on this same gun for my truck too. My brother gave me his never shot Hi-Point 40 and after running 20 rounds with a total of 5 jams, decided to get a cheap revolver. It's only 238.00 at Buds plus minus whatever they offer for trade....thinking I may pull the trigger.

Great value for money! One review puts it best, M200s are "not junk."

good luck with your trunk gun illegal in nj with a handgun in your trunk unloaded and in a case you must go directly to and from the range to home and back. I work 12 miles from home and a range is near work. If I was caught with a handgun in my trunk and not on ly way to or from a range bye bye handgun and probably arrest and possibly jail. This is with an unloaded cased handgun. With a loaded one 10 years maybe less. Google Shaneen Allen if you do not know her story. This is what it is like behind the gun iron curtain.

I almost got myself an M200 for the sake of having a junker revolver I could throw in the car or generally not be too worried about its overall condition.

Most of the Youtube reviews are very positive about the Rock Island/Arms. I watched quite a few. Then I saw a few where they had revolvers that were out of time right out of the box.

Their quality isn't horrible but it isn't good. You'd be better off with a used Charter if you're looking for an inexpensive truck revolver. Or with a lot of patience you can snag a deal on Gunbroker for nicer S&W or Ruger revolver.

Actually their quality is good maybe not great to you but I would argue different. You also have to consider they make more 1911's than anyone now.
To top it off their company president comes on facebook daily and answers question and concerns. Their gunsmiths spend time on the FB page also. I know of no other that does that.
I'll take their presidents word on issues before random comments on the interweb. I would say they have CS rivaling Ruger. And considering how my 1911s run I'll stick with them. Ruger didn't get their 1911 on the market as soon as I wanted and after being recommended by local police officers I gave RIA a try. I'm sold.

FYI: Went to the RIA Website and hit the "buy now" button which brought me to Gallery of Guns. There, I put in my zip code to get a quote on the M200 from a local FFL. Found a couple of places nearby where I can get it for about $215 ($240 with taxes and fees).

Looking very tempting right now.

If you get a trunk gun I would also highly recommend and Trunk Monkey.

They seem to be decent revolvers. From what I understand they are based off a Colt Detective Special and the internals are similar but without the Colt fit/finish of course.
