"Sticky" slide with full magazine

Weird question about a Walther PPS M2 (single stack 9mm). I thought about posting it to the Walther forum but then I thought ... gee, maybe this is "normal" for some centerfire pistols and I'm just clueless since I've only owned a couple in my life. (Most of my gun safe is rimfires, shotguns and rifles.)

The gun has six, seven and eight-round mags. The six and seven rounders work fine. But when I pop a fully loaded eight rounder in the gun and rack the slide, it's noticeably harder to work the slide. Presumably this is because of pressure from the first round in the mag. When the mag is loaded down one to seven rounds it works fine.

The first couple times I took it to the range and tried to fire it from an 8+1 configuration, it did function correctly, so I guess the pressure isn't enough to cause a jam, but I still doubt that I'd carry this as an 8+1.

Is this a normal thing for some pistols?

I reordered your words to give you your answer.

This can happen with some pistols and brand new mags.

Thanks. That's kinda what I assumed but my pistol experience has been limited to an old Taurus many years ago, a 9E, an LCP and various Ruger .22 pistols. Never encountered this before.

For me this pretty much puts the kibosh on 8+1 carry. Otherwise it's a great pistol.
