Was disassembling my Ruger Mark III and went to take the mainspring out and it's stuck. The safety is stuck in fire and the bolt will not open but a 1/2" looked on many forums and cant get anything to work

Is it a new gun or one you've not take apart yet? When they are new the bolt stop is difficult to take out. Disassembly videos on You Tube can be helpful. When mine was new I had to tap out the bolt stop with a piece of wood and a light hammer. As many here will affirm these guns are a bit temperamental to take down and re-assemble.

Rugerfan57 is absolutely correct, you may need to punch out the bolt stop with a dowel (wood or hard plastic); we are assuming the mainspring is swinging out from the grips.

ruger has some disassembly and reassembly videos under tech tips. definitely want to review reassembly instructions. :)

i was going to PM you so not to post another forum site on here, but could not figure it out so.. apologies to the mods if it is a no no... let me know or delete the reference.

sounds like you may want to try this old post, maybe things are set up different now?

Brand New Mark III Competition Mainspring Won't Swing Out - RimfireCentral.com Forums

also there is a good reference link in the first post for troubleshooting.

you may have already tried this, i dunno, i have not ran into your problem with my 22/45, but i had these links saved on my drive, just took a little to find it.
read thru the whole section its only 14 posts.

At the risk of giving freshman advise I'm wondering if you read all the procedures in the manual. If you don't have one download it from the Ruger site. You have to follow the procedures to disassemble exactly as they are written in the manual. It is a pain in the behind but you have to do the procedure as written. Any mistakes and you have to start over.

I'm 70 years old and have been shooting and handling guns since I was a kid. All kinds of guns. This is the first firearm I have ever needed a vise and a hammer to disassemble. When I finally got it back together (thank you, You Tube) I swore I'd never take it apart again. The owner's manual is vague to the point of useless.
