M&P 9FS fails the gauntlet test miserably

Looks like the M&P line won't withstand the elements -- water, dirt, sand, mud. They tend to blame it on the gap between the slide and frame and the opening of the "loaded chamber" indicator.
As this design is pretty much standard on the FS models, the 9c, the Shield models, etc. -- I would guess they would all fail equally.

Reliability Test! M&P 9mm meets the Gauntlet

As for me? I have no intentions of ever rolling in the mud with my 9FS. My cowboy days are long behind me. I've got at least 1000 rounds through it and not one hic-up. No second thoughts as to whether it will go bang in the middle of the night if an intruder stupidly picks the wrong house.

I've seen a few of these so called 'reliability' tests done on various YouTube channels. IMO they're stupid. All they prove is that one gun on one day 'failed' some sort of over the top abuse. It would be like taking a Ferrari four wheeling and then dismissing it as unworthy because it got stuck in the mud.

Have to agree with BONK.
I had a tasty Dan Wesson CBOB in10MM for years never let me down.....then i dropped it only on grass and do you know from that day on till i sold it...it never ran properly.
I replaced t with a Dan Wesson CBOB in 45ACP never had a failure.
Hope the used security six I just bought lasts as long.
:)

I once saw a similar type stress test video on an AK-47 vs. an AR-15.

The conventional thought going into the test was that the AK would kick butt. Didn't happen. The AR easily outperformed the AK.

Update -- this may have been the video I saw. This is the AR portion, there is a corresponding one for the Ak

Just a fact of life. Some weapons dont like dirt, a select few dont care and run fine filthy.

I have to agree with Bonk.

You can make anything fail if you try hard enough.

Oh, c'mon. Who here hasn't dropped their gun out of a helicopter and then froze it in the freezer and then drove over it?

That happens to me almost daily ]
It just DONT mean anything to you Shipwreck , cause that kinda crap DONT affect Beretta 92's. They go bang no matter what you do, or DONT do to them. ;)

Were talkin bout a $300 piece of pwastick here,,,,,, :p

The gap between slide and frame is supposed to make it MORE reliable if debris gets in there. I agree with Bonk and Smartpig, those tests don't mean much.
I trust my two M&P FS .40's as much as I've ever trusted any pistol.
There are a LOT of M&P's out there in the hands of citizens, and some LE departments.
If the AREX pistol from Slovenia is so good, you'd think it would be standard issue somewhere.
