Needed to make an add to my revolver collection,so I bought this S&W 638-3
.38 SPL+P 5 Shot revolver. And I also put a Charter Arms Bulldog 44 Special on the Lay Away Plan.
I have a Charter Pug, similar gun but in 40S&W, really like the gun. Eventually going to get a Charter Police Bulldog for my wife to carry instead of her Colt PP.
Good for you. The 638 is kind of odd looking, but I think it's actually a good design for carry purposes. Had one and the SA pull was actually very good. Sold mine because a lot of carrying and shooting I do is in cold weather and I found that SA hammer to be a little hard to manage with cold hands (lot of sub zero weather, here), so I preferred to carry a J frame with the more traditional hammer. Fine gun, just didn't work for my purposes.
As for the Bulldog, have always admired the 44 Special and would love to see Ruger offer a smaller 44 Special for carry purposes. I think the 44 Special is a very under-appreciated SD cartridge. Love shooting it in my 44 mags.
The 638 is one of my all time favorites. Love the airweight J-frames. The Humpbacks offer all the advantages of the Centennial models with the bonus of the hammer equipped versions.
A 649 Magnum is on my list to pick up at some point.
