Does anyone here have both a Ruger SR1911 and a Springfield Range Officer? If so, how do they compare?

I have an SR1911 Lightweight and a Springfield milspec stainless. Both are excellent 1911s and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. I'm sure you'll be quite happy with either brand.

Yes, have owned and shot both quite a bit. Both great guns with 100% reliability.

I found the RO to be more accurate, easily the equal some of the higher grade target 1911s I had at the time. Those sights do not make for a good carry gun, though. They will snag on clothing and so on. That's not a criticism, since SA designed the RO to be purely a range gun, right out of the box. Buy it with that in mind.

The SR1911 was no slouch, though, as far as accuracy, and it was one of the most comfortable to shoot 1911s I've ever owned. Can't say why, exactly, but I could just keep burning up ammo with the SR like few other 1911s I've owned. Great choice for a do everything 1911.

As a footnote, I can no longer deal with racking the slide on 1911s in 45 auto due to some arthritis, but I sure do miss them.

I've shot both. I own the SR1911. If I had the money I'd buy the RO too. I don't think you can go wrong either way. I'm very happy with my SR1911. I've owned it I think 3 years and not ever had a problem.

I have both, sort of... my SR1911 is the CMD version, and my Range Officer is a 9mm stainless version, so very different pistols.

The Ruger is an excellent all-round pistol. Functions perfectly with any ammo I've ever tried to feed it and is a joy to shoot. It seems to wind up in my range bag every time I head out. The sights on it are perfectly serviceable, but not exactly my preference. I keep saying I am going to swap them out for something else, but haven't ever done it. My preference is all black or black rear with FO front rather than the more common 3 dot system that Ruger and most others sport these days.

The 9mm Range Officer was bought specifically for IDPA. The adjustable rear sight and fiber optic front are almost perfect for my old eyes, and still more precise than the sights on the SR1911. Fit and finish on my particular specimen is excellent. I agree that it is probably more inherently accurate than my Ruger, but for my skill level and my purposes both are more than accurate enough. The RO has also been very reliable.

Bottom line, both are excellent pistols and good values in my opinion. It really just comes down to your personal preference and perhaps your intended usage. I plan on hanging on to both of them!

Wellllll. Actually I have owned a couple SR1911s. I bought them back in 2012 when they had a big sale on them at a LGS for $599. They are both nice but one is better at making small groups in paper at 25 yards. I put Eagle Wings grips on that one. The other one I let people shoot that want to try a 1911. Finally at the end of last year I sold it to a friend who had shot it a couple times.

As far as ROs I have them in 45 and 9mm. The 45 I bought in the fall of 2014 and it was the second one I have owned. The first one was not doing for me at 50 yards and I sold it to a friend. This new one in 45 is much nicer.

So I guess the moral of the story is there is a variation from gun to gun. I guess if you want to holster what you buy part of the time then the Ruger would be better and if you just want a range gun / paper punch then the RO would be best. I am thinking of having adjustable sights put on the very accurate SR1911 I have.

I don't own a SR1911, but I have had a RO for about 4 years now. The RO is very accurate but they match the parts before assembly (this is etched inside the slide etc). I have shot my friends SR1911 and it seemed to be relatively accurate also.
You can't go wrong much with either.

Both are good, reliable, and very serviceable.
The RO is a better finished, and accurate piece.
Sights and better on the RO In my humble opinion.
Most important thing in buying a gun is, get what you like !
Enjoy and shoot whatever you get very often.

i have the SR1911 CMD and the RO Operator which has the novak rear sight and fiber optic front sight
I like the sights on the RO better, but I like the trigger on the Ruger better
I've put more rounds thru the Ruger so the trigger may have smoothed out more just by shooting it
the tolerances seem to be a tad bit tighter on the Springfield
the accuracy seems to be negligible, but I've only shot them offhand. from a rest would be a better test.
both great shooters. I'm not selling either one.
I found the mags that came with the RO were not the greatest. although they feed just fine, loading them is a bit more of a problem than most other mags I've tried. they just seem cheaply made. I have several Mecgar mags that work much better.
you wont be disappointed with either one. :D
