which red dot sight?

I want a red dot for my 44 mag Bisley hunter. I believe there are sights that will attach to the hunter models on the rib. Is a holagraphic sight better? I was thinking to pay in the $200.00 to $250.00 range.

Save up a couple hundred more and go for EO tech or Aimpoint or something in that class.

I would recommend an Ultradot 25. Has the right tube diameter to fit right in the Ruger rings on the Hunter and is light enough to not affect the balance of the gun. It's also as mag proof as a red dot can be, plus it has a lifetime warranty, backed by solid customer service.

These are better than everything else by a wide margin.

If the Aimpoints and EOTechs are out of reach the Matchdot Ultradot is pretty good.

Most cheap red dot sights will disappoint you. I learned that from bitter experience.

North country gal,,,,,,,,,Is it easy to get a sight picture fast? Would there be any advantage to the PAN-AV?

Holo sights and Aimpoints, at least the ones I've seen, are pretty wide for a handgun, better suited for ARs. Something in a 28 or 30mm would look better. Ultradot makes good products, make sure it's magnum-tested. I've been happy with Bushell products but they're mounted on Ruger Marks, not quite as powerful as your Bisley.

Sight acquisition is quicker than a scope, though you will have to practice using a red dot, same as a scope. The red dot is easier to use, though.

Yes, the larger the screen on a red dot, the easier and faster to get on target, but the PAN-AV is no go with your Ruger rings setup. Easy fix, though. Add a Weigand base to your Hunter and you're set.

Now, I have not used that type of red dot on a magnum pistol, so I can't verify how it will work for you and I refuse to recommend a product I haven't used. My experience is limited to the more conventional tube type Ultradots on magnum pistols. I know those are magnum proof from having used them. Still, Ultradot has a great warranty and customer service should you need help. Hopefully, someone who has used a PAN-AV or similar will post.

I really don't want to add anymore weight than necessary. Also, I do like quick sighting because I hunt a lot of fairly thick woodlots. I have seen a red dot sight [not scope style] mounted directly on a hunter model, does anyone know what sights will do that?
