Official 10/22 Takedown Scope Thread

I have been on the hunt for a scope for my new Ruger 10/22 Takedown that will fit in the bag. After searching the vast internet there doesn't seem to be a large, collective list of what scopes fit in the bag. So if everyone who has a scope on their Takedown please report what it is and if it fits in the bag, I will keep the list below updated.

Fits in the backpack:

Konus 4x32
Leupold VX -1 2-7X28
Nikon African 1-4x20
Nikon P223
Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32
Weaver 2.5-7x28mm
Weaver Nitrex 1.5 X 5

Does not fit in the backpack:

Have you looked at the Leapers scopes sold by UTG? The have several compact options that look interesting. I don't have a TD myself but I am considering a couple of their options for my standard 1022.

Leapers Bug Buster 3-9X 32 is very nice and has all the great features for under $100. Compact, decent eye relief and fits in bag.
It also has reticle focus on the eye piece even though that feature was left off the user manual !

I finally put a scope on my 10/22 takedown.

I went with the Leupold VX-1 2-7x28 with the Game Reaper medium mount and couldn't be more pleased. The low mount would have worked, but the fold down rear site would have scraped the scope unless folded down and I didn't want to risk that.

I'll try and post some pics later, but I really like this setup, plus it fits the bag.

Here ya go:

The site is folded down in the pictures, but I think you can see how close the bell of the scope is. It does still clear with the sight up, but not by much. I really like this setup. Sturdy and you don't have to lap, etc. with this mount.

Hey jlh820,

What weaver mounting rail are you using? It seems to match the polish of your scope and rings. I'm curious because i've heard some of the mounting rails don't fit correctly on the take-down models. I'm very interested in using your setup, looks very nice.

Thanks

Both of those look real good...

The DNZ is hard to find good pics of...thanx for posting them...very nice product...

However, I like to take my scopes off a lot...swap scopes...and use the dot at will...

That means I would not like the DNZ from a convenience point of view...and I prefer the Weaver Low steel band rings with the coin slot thumb nuts for fast/easy on/off...

The 2-7x28 imo is the only size scope that makes sense for the TD...or a red dot...

I spent an entire week obsessing over a scope for my 10/22. One that fits in the bag? One that's more versatile and use quick disconnects? Do I want to keep taking the scope on and off? will that effect performance? Do I want access to iron sites AND a scope?

I ended up with a Nikon Rimfire 3-9x 150BDC and used quick disconnect rings. This way I could take the gun out of the bag and shoot iron sites right away or take (literally) 20 seconds and put my scope on. The scope and the rifle fit in the bag fine (just seperate).

I looked at MANY scopes before chosing one. I spent a few days handling and qualifying different scopes at my retailer. The UTG bug Buster was very interesting, it fits in the bag AND has so many features..BUT I realized it looked too tactical AND the optic quality was just not as "solid" as the Nikon was. And for the price, the nikon, by far, was the cleanest/clearest scope.

I am VERY happy with my set up

Congrats! Nikon makes nice scopes. And 3-9 is a good range for the 10/22. Who makes your rings? I have a Weaver with Millet rings. They aren't quick detach, but they come off the rifle easily using a quarter or a nickel. They seem to hold zero pretty well, too.

Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40. Prior to that, I had the 3-9x off my Walther Falcon that worked well.
