Ruger Redhawk .44mag Scope

My dad left me his Ruger Redhawk .44mag 7 1/2".

Iam a avid whitetail hunter and would appreciate and info on scopes for this gun. I really don't want a big scope and was leaning toward a red dot of some kind but did not know if it could withstand the recoil. I don't think that I would be shooting beyond 50 yards.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Ian very open minded at this point.

Scope make model would be great so I can do some research.

Thank you all in advance!

The right red dot, such an an Ultradot will handle the recoil. I use an Ultradot on my 357 and have shot many hundreds of rounds with it, no problems at all. Leave the cheap red dots, though, for your 22s.

The traditional scope for hunting at that range has always been a 2x and that is plenty of magnification, especially if this is your first pistol scope. Using magnification on a pistol takes some getting used to. My favorite has always been the Leupold 2x, but Weaver, Nikon and other major name scopes are also good.

Well now I guess that just depends on your definition of cheap. I have the Bushnell TRS-25 on mine and it has about 1000 rounds through it now. Works perfectly and holds zero so far. Its not terribly cheap but then again I think it was under $90 when I got mine.

Cheap as in the $40 stuff. I also use TRS-25s, though on my rim fires.

While not a big fan of Simmon's scopes I put a Simmon's Pro-hunter on my .480, its held up good so far and I have zero complaints.
