Scope for a Ruger 480

GUys, I have a ruger 480 with a 6 in. barrel. It's been magna ported, and is a real beast. Can anyone recommend a good scope! I have a cheap NC star on it and the recoil causes the scope to move, and the rings are so tight the metal is peeling of the scope. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you lap the rings? You need 75-80 % contact area to hold the scope on any big bore HG.

I went through the same delimina last summer. I took a scope off my .357 blackhawk and used the Ruger Rings. Problem I found was Ruger rings were a fraction to large for the scope and resulted in me losing zero by scope movement. I tried the friction tape route but the recoil was a bit to much. Moved up to a Leupold FX-II 2 x 20 with the Ruger Rings and friction tape that came with the Leupold and so far so good. If another scope doesn't work then other alternatives that I considered at the time was Weigand scope base and rings which may be better but still may result in movement (it requires the removal of the rear sight and screws into the existing rear sight hole). And of course a permanent more costly fix would be buying an intergrated scope base and rings with a gunsmith drill and tap.
