| EOTech versus Aimpoint decision
I am presently DROSing (California slang for a 10 day waiting period) a Mini 14 .223 rifle, and I am debating which sight to go with. I generally shoot at 25 meters, so do not plan to go with magnification. I have used the Aimpoint CompM3 sight and really like it. I am also looking at the EOTech XPS2-0 and like it as well. My budget is around $500 which is what both of these sights go for. I would be very interested in the opinions of others regarding the pros and cons of these two sights. I am very familiar with the EOTech Circle-dot (65MOA/1MOA) sight, and obviously this is one of the big differences.
All comments welcome.

I own several of both brands, I love the wide open FOV on the EOTechs and the reticle. I also love the the battery life (5 year life span...while turned on) and durability of the Aimpoints.
If I were in your position I would probably chose an Aimpoint Pro, they can be had new for $150 less than your budget and that is including the mount.

The EOtec got my vote for my Colt M-4. I am very satisfied with it. Nothing at all wrong with Aimpoint. It's kind of like choosing a handgun. Get what YOU like better.

Howdy- Have one of each type- the popular Aimpoint "mini" and LaRue Mount on my wife's semi M4 type carbine, and a recently installed Eotech 514 on my SR556. The fasteners that hold the Aimpoint to it's mount are REALLY small! The Aimpoint works well, of course, and is nice and compact. The Eotech ( this model uses AA batteries, gives best life w Lithium ) is by it's nature bigger ( they do have a bunch ofr smaller models to choose from as well ) . Controls are easy to use, and I prefer the "dot and circle" over the plan dot of the Aimpoint. DID NOT need to buy a separate mount to get it together, which brought the cost DOWN compared to the Aimpoint rig ( although there are less expensive mounts to be had than that LaRue, the LaRue has an excellent reputation, as do all their products ) . I bought my Eotech through Overstock .com (!!!) and saved a bit more. Would buy another!

I used the eotechs for years, a few different models. I never had a problem with any of them. My buddy had a 516 that would not hold zero, it was a couple years out of warranty, but eotech fixed it free including eotech paying shipping both ways.
I recently bought an Aimpoint PRO, which comes with a mount for $400. I love the amipoint. When you move your head around the dot stays on target so long as you don't move the rifle, you don't get that with eotech. The batteries last alot longer with the aimpoints. Overall I just like the aimpoint pro better than the eotechs, and it is slowly replacing eotechs on all my carbines.

When you move your head the reticle stays on target from the shooter's perspective.
You are correct that the Aimpoints' battery life is unparalleled.

You are correct that the Aimpoints' battery life is unparalleled. | Try and aimpoint and an eotech side by side if you get a chance, you'll see the eotech reticle does move slightly off the target as you head moves and the firearms stays still.
I've had several Eotechs, almost all of them bought direct from Eotech licensed distributors, and all of them eotech verified as good via serial number.
Now on eotechs its really only noticable at close distances, like 10 yards, after that you don't much notice it, but on aimpoint the dot stays still at an distance.
Heres a few video examples |

It's hard to beat an Eotec or aimpoint. We own the eotec. If ya have astigmatism; they both will give ya trouble. The reticles tend to "bloom' and look irregular if ya have much of the astigmatism problem. I'm lookin at buying a leupold prismatic with an etched recticle and a lighted single dot to fix the astigmatism problem for my 23 year old.

Well, don't laugh but I ended up with one of each. An Aimpoint CompC3 and an EOTech XPS3-0 for my new (pick it up tomorrow) Mini. Like I said; long story.
Here is the Mini 14 with the Aimpoint CompC3:

Awesome, you'll be happy with both no doubt, they are both fine optics. Just as a matter of personal tastes, but I like the aimpoint a little better; especially now that you can get the PRO for the same or less money. Quote:

] | I was shooting an EOTech today at the range and I believe that you are right. You can get a small deviation from zero if the reticle is not near the center of the sight. It tends to show up as windage deviation. Not a huge deal but as your video shows, it is there. Good post.

We used the M68 , the Army version of the CompM2 Aimpoint and I'll tell you, you just can't kill those things. They are built to take abuse and they won't lose zero no matter how much that sight gets bashed around. Plus the battery lasts forever, they have a constant "on" run time at the mid-level setting of over a year. I think the newest Aimpoints take a single AA battery, the one I used took a CR2039 button battery.
I never used or owned an EOTech but they are also used by the Army, just that the unit I was with went with the Aimpoints. I hear the EOTechs are popular with the Spec Ops guys.
A cheap red dot like a Barska or one of those wouldn't last a day enduring the kind of abuse a red dot sight takes during an overseas deployment.
We later switched to ACOG's, which I also love but the Aimpoint is one fine red dot. There's a reason they cost almost $1,000. You can get the lower end Aimpoints for a little less $$$ because most people don't need the night vision compatibility.
You can also get a 2x adapter to turn the Aimpoint into a magnified optic but I didn't think they worked very well, but that's just my opinion.

I have both and prefer the larger field of view on the EOtech.
