I'm looking for a good, but reasonably priced, holographic "red dot" sight for my Ruger 22/45.
I've tried two inexpensive ones on it and both had their strengths and weaknesses; but were, ultimately, unsatisfactory.
These were "off-brand" cheap ($40-$50) sights. One worked great - for one trip to the range. At 15 yards, shots were going through the same hole. It's downside was that, next trip to the range, it had, somehow or other, loosened up on the rail. And, yes, I'd used Loc-Tite on the mounting screws.
It's other disadvantages were that:
- Its construction put the glass window way forward (harmless but ugly), and
- It's design required removal from the rail to change batteries. Stoopid, but I couldn't discern that when ordering off the Internet.
The second one mounted such that the glass window was farther back; so looked a little less dorky. And you could change the battery without removing the sight. But!...
With a white paper target in broad daylight, it was impossible to see the reticle (it had four) unless I aimed into the shade then slowly brought it up to the target. That's not a reasonable way to shoot, and even then, the reticle was so dim that it was easily lost.
I'd like some recommendations on a good quality "holo sight" that can be used in broad daylight, doesn't require removal to change batteries, and stays firmly locked to the rail.
Oh. And, no, I don't want to spend more on it than on the gun.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
